  • Door to door salesmen

The other day I had some young men round trying to sell double glazing. I said "we're renting" and they went away (it's much quicker than saying you're not interested as they always have an answer).

Today they're here again, but flogging flat roofs!

I am always suspicious of not just cowboy builders, but I think some cold-callers might be burglars casing the joint for empty houses.

I don't think reputable tradesmen need to send young reps round with cheap business cards, do they?

My trick with squirmy trouserless baby always sends them on their way when I say I am mid-nappy change.

Have you got a sign saying 'no cold-callers? I don't as quite enjoy being rude once in a while to strangers at the door, but I think they aren't allowed to knock if you have a sign?

Luckily in this house, I just say not to bother as it's a conservation area and nobody is allowed to have [insert whatever they are selling].

      Annoying though isn't it.

        I tell them my mum isn't home.... (I'm 29)

Actually, I usually bring a dog to the door with me, 5 stone of barking, frothing at the mouth, straining-at-the-collar Boxer and tell them I'm a bit busy

If you are part of a Homewatch scheme, then they have red stickers saying you don't buy from the door.
If most of your neighbours have them too, they should get the idea pretty quickly!

Yep....the I'm renting line always works for us too!!!(see there are some benefits!)
T.S's...if you're concerned about them maybe call the police and report them....it does seem a little odd that one day they're selling windows & the next roofs(rooves?).....although I think some agencies do employ people just to do leaflet drops for various companies....so maybe they're O.K???....If in doubt...check it out1

Hubbie is really good of getting rid of those sort of people he justs looks at them, does a sharp intake, shakes his head, rolls his eyes and calmly closes the door. Being 6 foot 3 and built like a rugby prop helps too!!

Whenever they come round to mine I don't even need an excuse, they always ask if my mum or dad's in! I'm 25, but look young for my age!!

I generally say no tho for door to door!

I tell them my policy is that I won't be signing anything on the doorstep today. They need the sale there and then so this is not what they want to hear and leave.

i get annoyed with the amount of charity collectors we get, can you just pay us x amoun t a month jobbies ...... usually i look at them, ask are you after money cos i haven't got any, for some reason most of them say no, but then proceed to ask you to just sign up for this ....... errr no i still haven't got any money.

we've had the cable blokes round about 4 times lately asking me to switch ....... we haven't even got cable ...... i do tell them when they can do a BB for £7.50 a month with free cable to the house to gimme a call.

and why do they always come when i'm in the middle of eating??

I used to adopt a similar tictac. Just stare at them - don't say a word.

Alas, we live in a "no cold-calling" area now, so I don't get to play.
