  • Domestic advice please!

Don't know if I've made a booboo but I've bought- for the first time fitted sheets cos I thought it'd be much quicker to put on the bed than tucking in and corners.

Problem is...I've spent 5 times longer trying to iron them and they still look like they need a good irong.
Then...how on earth are you supposed to fold them without them all creasing up again?

( I damp ironed them too to make it 'easier'...ha ha!

They are 100% cotton and must be look reasonably ironed
    so.....any tips please?

Feel like chucking them in the bin at the moment

If you really must iron them, can you iron them on the bed?
I hate ironing so haven't done any for about 4 years - I'm such a lazy slug!

The only bed linen I iron is pillowcases and even then people think I'm mad.

Are you running a B & B or something? Sheets smell better when not ironed in my opinion...but what do I know.

Maybe you could iron them when fitted on the bed, though I could not recommend this

Ironing is tricky - I do all the 'easy' bits, then poke the ironing board end into each corner, then use one hand underneath the board to grab the sheet to put the elastic taut and iron with the other hand. (er - clear as mud?)

The folding bit is a lot easier - you sort of 'stack' the corners and pull the whole thing square - er - tell you what, a vid will show you how...

I have Egyptian fitted sheets and to be honest if I could do hospital corners it would be flat sheets for me. Unless they are poly cotton the sheets will still look creased in part, in my experience. Buy a steam press maybe?

There is no way of getting fitted sheets crease free by ironing on the ironing board. Just shove them on the bed and let them stretch for a while. Then run over with the iron on the bed.

Much better to get the top sheet nice and crisp if you don't have a duvet on top. Also fabric freshener spray - or ironing water in the iron to make them smell good.

If you dry them on the line and peg them out so they billow in the wind you may well get away with not ironing at all. Put them on the bed and check how they look later.

I'm another advocate of not ironing anything. It's my experience that creases fall out of clothes/bedding very quickly just by using them, and other creases will form by using them, so ironing would just be a waste of electricity for me. To each their own.

Many a moon ago, when I used to do sleep ins at work, I'd watch the Waking Night staff iron, including fitted sheets, (I must add, I didn't just sit and watch but stayed up to natter whilst they ironed). Anyway, they did it much like the video, just fold the corners and iron as you go. Every now and then, when boredom really hits, I've done it and can vouch it works. x

Wow Nicos. Now what a lovely thing to have a gite!

I have to confess to having a 'thing' for fresh bedlinen - to the extent that I use cotton, linen union or linen sheets exclusively!

Just to clarify - Nicos may well be able to put some of us grapes up in her gite for a reasonable fee!
