  • Dog owners

    Hi all.
I live in a small village outside Lincoln, on whats called the Roman Way or the Ridge. My garden backs onto a lane, which leads to a beautiful meadow. It is a place to relax. walk, run, have a picnic, it is not 'managed, ' but left to go wild. It is also a place to exresise your dog, unfortunately, most of the owners fail to clean up after there pooches. I have complained once, and been told the local dog warden visits, but they all must know him. It really does spoil it for any person wishing to enjoy this special place. I have nothing against dogs, far from it. But it makes me so mad that some people treat the place as nothing moore than a dog toilet. I am not one to complain, and will not do so again, not wanting to be labbled a moaner, but I despair of some people, I really do.

Are there no bins (normal or poo-bins) nearby?

Does the area have signs saying no fouling?, if not perhaps you could ask the council to put some up, as long as they own it of course.

Why don't you lurk with a camera and pretend you're taking pics of wildlife.

Is there a local newspaper that could get involved...name and shame or something.

My friend lives in a similar setting to you and she says folk often pick up poo when someones watching only to throw it in the nearest bush when they think no ones watching

Even as a dog owner I also have felt annoyed by people (not the dogs really) I used to live in the suburbs and would walk around with a placc bag of poo attached to the dog lead until we came to a bin. Only to return home and find someone's dog pooping at our gate.........the owner looking you straight in the eye and not caring. Makes you want to do something unmentionable.

Then set up a cctv camera on it and see if you can catch someone flaunting the law. Obviously it would only be directed at your own property.

I took a video of one area that I walk in because I was so disgusted with the poo. I sent it to the council, but haven't had a reply: Lowestoft ~ 61 dog turds - YouTube

I hate dog poo, of course. I always pick up and I often pick up others' as well.

What really really riles me is the dogwalkers who think it's OK to let their animals run free on cycle lanes ~ they wouldn't do it on the road, but apparently it's just funny if a cyclist gets frightened, bitten or knocked off

I absolutely loathe dog's mess - that's one reason I don't have one. I used to hate it when I'd get back from the school run with second child in pram / buggy to find poo stuck between the wheels and more on the school shoes. Yuck. Our village has bins everywhere. Are they used? Some people use them, others bag it and others just leave it on the ground. Someone hung a bag of poo on the allotment gate once - it is in sight of a dog poo bin! A plot holder who has since moved allowed his dog to foul other people's plots. Unbelievable. Perhaps some publicity with local paper might shame culprits to behave instead of spoiling it for everyone.

I hate all the dog mess left around. I have a dog and always pick it up but most don't seem too. I do know of a lady who got fed up with it outside her house and filmed the culprit - they got the £1000 fine!
