  • Do you need a bit of website/picture post/computer help.

LO all, didnt know anywhere else to post this so here it is :P

I have been well chuffed with the free help ( and even odd few cuttings etc) as well as genunely warm advice from fellow grapes since taking up the growing 'habit'.

I have seen the odd post re stuck shrinking or uploading pictures etc and a few other tech bits and thought I could perhaps help other grapes in that way should they be stuck ( dont be embarrased !). I have plenty of webspace to stick pics on too if needed.

I do NOT do this for a living nor am I interested in doing so and have never ever took a penny off a friend so please dont misread this as anything other than what it is. I simply cant give advice on growing due to my lack of knowledge but would enjoy returning the favour in this other way so P.M me if you're stuck.

    Regards Mas

      What a kind gesture mas!

I'll certainly ask for help if I may...(once I've finished digging the field and sorting out my electric fence)...just need a few moments to myself to concentrate!!

My problem is shrinking my photos to the size the Vine will accept them .
I managed it fine before the upgrade...and now I feel a total dumbo..even when peeps show me directions what to do....

I'm glad you are enjoying the Vine..with all this lovely weather we're all finally getting stuck into out mutual interests...GYO!!!!

That's so kind of you Mastiff. I'll put this one here rather than a PM as it might help others,
I can post a pic on the Vine but how do I post a pic in a PM.
Simple as ABC please. Thank you.

LO, there is no difference at all in the two. In the eyes of the vines software
( called a board or forum) , a P.M is just a forum post but one only your recipient can see. The boards admins can alllow disallow pictures in P.M's but I have just checked and they are allowed here
( note I sent you a nice one So click on send P.M and then do exactly what you did for a forum post is the answer.

Simple answer as requested above , longer one below for others, :P

Assuming your picture is already on the web somewhere its always easy to explain how to 'embed a pic' in a post and on this board you can just click on the button which is at the top of the P.M posting panel.

A pictutres weblink on here must ALWAYS be in this format

              [IMQ]http://www.englishmastiff.org.uk/pics/winter.jpg[/IMQ]

Note: the tags in the brackets should be IMG and /IMG but if I typed them with the deliberate mistake ( Q's instead of G's deliberately. If I hadnt the the board would have looked for an image and ignored what I was trying to display to you. Picture links must be inside img and /img tags and must start http://www just like a webpage does.
Your pics would of course not be on my webserver so wouldnt have the englishmastiff.org.uk part .

If you need to get your picture on to the web thats what gets people stuck . Many people start by thinking they can link to a picture on their own computer to a board/forum ( the vine) which is the big misunderstanding. Once you realise the picture must first be uploaded ' to the web' the whole things a lot clearer but no one tells you this.

I would say I have never PM'd a pic in my life as attaching a pic to an E-Mail is far easier , assuming you dont mind them having your e-mail address then I wouldnt bother pm'ing a pic as there is no reason to other than not revealing your e-mail address.

If you do want a walk through of how to upload a picture onto the web in the first place ( so you can send people links to the picture and put it in any posts) , I can gladly send you one but I wont post it on the forum unless asked in case the admins here have done one and I dont want to offend them.

              Cheers Mas

Hello Mastiff, on the Vine a pic can be posted to the forum which is only on your own computer and I have no problem doing that.
In a PM the pic has to be uploaded from the web but I can't find a way.
When I click the insert image button I get a pop up saying Insert the URL for your image and that's me lost. What do I put there ?
I have the pics in Picassa Web Albums.

I don't think we have, and people are always asking, so feel free.

I always thought that to place a picture on the website it must be hosted somewhere.
How comes that I have my pics on Photobucket and they still don't show here?

Coreopsis, you can post a pic which is on your own computer. Click on Go Advanced then the little Paper Clip symbol. In Look In look where you have your pics , select the pic then click the drop down arrow beside the paper clip and click insert. You may need to resize. That's a different problem.

A picture on any board or forum DOES have to be hosted somewhere and it CANT be on your computer since your computer cannot be seen by web servers, you are totally right

A board ( including this one) thats lets you 'appear' to show a picturre that on your machine is actually uploading the pic from your computer to their own webspace and keeping it there just as you do when you send a pic attached to an e-mail. Coreopss is of course quite right that the board allows this , its a good well functioned board.

If your photobucket pics dont appear it is because you are using the wrong link , or you have your photobucket settings on 'private' so that only you or invited folk can see them rather than being publically viewable to anyone.

If your not sure which is your problem P.M me your photobucket folder ( or a link to a picture ) and I'll tell you. have fun !

                        Regards Mas
