  • Do You Blog?

As it's going to be weeks before I can get off my arris, for anything more strenuous than making coffee, I thought I might look in to starting the blog I've been thinking about for a while now. I'm always making, baking or creating something I'd like to share, as well as my photography (a grand name for my point'n'click pics) and I've been thinking a blog might be therapeutic.

I know a lot of you guys blog; do you enjoy it, did the novelty wear off and what's the best free blogging site to use?

    Any other hints & tips?
    Jules

You've seen mine Jules - at the end of this! I'm not a committed blogger and I don't expect anyone to look at it - but its a useful place to dump some photos and a few reminders about progress, or lack of it.
I use Blogspot -because its easy to set up and I don't do technical wizardry!
Have a go at it - I deleted my first Blog as it was such rubbish - and its free so what the heck, eh?

I use blogger - it's pretty straightforward, and although it drives you bonkers at times (occasionally putting photos landscape rather than portrait, for example, but only every now and again) it is fairly intuitive to set up and use.

The best advice I can think of, though, it to just think about what it is you want to include in your blog when you start - I have a blog for each of my hobbies (cooking, gardening and quilting) which means I keep pretty much to each subject. I think it makes it an easier read too - I know that some of the gardeners on here look at my gardening blog (in the sig) but would have little interest in my International Cookery Night blog, or sewing.

That suits me, although many other blogs are much more a 'diary about all aspects of my life including my family, work, moods, the dog etc etc.' Now I find these very interesting as I am a nosy ol' cow, but - personally - I don't want to share all those aspects of my life with the whole world.

I run two blogs, one for my gardening antics (below) and one for all my crafting, which I use as an add on to my website, which is much more of a shop.

I love blogging, because I get to waffle away and no one complains . I haven't done anything to my garden blog since July, but then I've not really been doing much gardening . The crfat one is much more up to date.

I use Blogger for both, and they come up on the same 'dashboard', so I can check the stats or flick between the two really easily.

Blogger sure has it's quirks. I wanted to use it as a shop, but as Hazel says, the photo formatting bugs can drive you bonkers (see my page of Country Fairies for proof of this).

I blog for my business using Wordpress. I find it very easy and has a lot of plugins, thing you can add on, which I find very handy.

Yeah I use wordpress - had a very simple one but son has just done some techie stuff for me as it is going to get more organised (yeah,,, in this lifetime? )
I started it to see how it worked, and now I really enjoy playing with it.

You may have realised that I love to prattle on anyway and no one complains when you are blogging...wel if they do you can just delete their comments anyway!
I have two real categories Parenting (teens) and CountryLife (gardening, food, living in the country) and I do share things about life in general. The kids all laugh that they make up most of the teen blog, but I'm pretty cautious about what I share, and how. It's more about teens and families than about particular people. I have said on the home page that the locals should not worry that I'm talking about them because it's all about us not them. But then when you live in a really, really, really, little place people always think you are talking about them.
It's a bit therapuetic, but if I'm really fired up about something I do a post, and then leave it for a few days or a week, and then I tweak it so it's funny rather than a huuuuge whinge.

Yes I do - I leave most boring stuff off but put interesting stuff [well, I think it is] and also results of trials and comparisons and I've been tweeted by Alys Fowler which I only found out about from Chris.

I find it a good reference for myself and often go back and see what I did when in the years gone by.

Okay....went to look at Blogger, only to discover I'm already a Blogger from the defunct chook based blog. It was disabled for some reason, lack of use probably, so I've deleted it and can now start again.

Need to think of a title.....

A blog is a virtual diary isn't it?

I was rubbish at keep a diary, I tried keeping a blog, but its no point if you only update it annually..

Oh no, I keep feeling guilty at not getting to read as many others as I'd like to. It's lovely tho to have a cruise thru someone's blog. Like having a good chat over coffee, but without having to wash your hair, get dressed up and drive there! I'm just lazy and social! )
