Disneyland Paris ~ your thoughts please

Not sure how relevant these thoughts will be TS as it was about 8 years ago, but we (3 of us, nipper would have been about 10) went for a couple of days.
Daughter really enjoyed it and appreciated it for what it was, a great Disney adventure. As parents we were appalled by the total commercialism of it all. Daughter had a photo taken with Chip and Dale, and a couple of other "minor celeb's" which she loved, but overall we were both disappointed.
On the plus side, it's close to the UK, the littl'un will probably adore it, and er um er cant think of anything else positive really. However, as I said, that was probably 8 years ago, maybe even longer.

My OH's DD went, with OH and friend of family with her DD.

OH hated it - the friend of family was really into shopping and tat and my OH is really into culture. It was set up in between him finding out his wife had cheated and them selling the house - and as a bit of a diversion for the little one whilst splitting up arrangements were made. Also to recompense because their joint holiday was cancelled. If it had been a better time then maybe he would have enjoyed it more?

There is no culture there at all. A week would have been a bit too much from all accounts. A long weekend, maybe. He detested it, the hotel [which I believe are themed so the rooms are Disneyed up] was tacky and all in all he says it was a nightmare. Bless.

Obviously its for the kids...not the adults. I spent my 38th Birthday at Warners in Florida and it wasn't THAT bad...and we had a day at a Disney Animal Land thing a few days later...again it wasn't that bad - but Warners was better [we met Spongebob - my hero!].

I guess what I am saying is a week might be too long to stomach the commercialism - how long would you be able to spend in Toys R Us without screaming - and times it by 10...that's the Disney effect, plus really expensive food.

We'll be here for you though - if you do go.

Hi I went there for a day whilst on honeymoon but that was in 1995 no kids with us, we told my sons that we were'nt going there when they asked us, then we sent them a postcard saying guess where we are !!! It was ok but food gifts very expensive. My niece went with the brownies a couple of years ago and something happened with one of the dressed up staff while she was having her photo taken, I think she lost her bag or her purse, I dont remember if it was anything else and I'm sure I would.

My mum & dad took my kids a few years ago. The kids loved it, but it cost a bloomin fortune! I agree with the others - a week'd be too long. 3 or 4 days, IMHO, would be the max before Disney-induced insanity set in and/or you were bankrupt!

we took our kids last year at begining of October. From an adults point of view, very very commercial, and a bit overpriced. weekends very busy. (we took the saturday 'off' and caught the train into Paris) food on site, again overpriced and very basic. we stayed in the Davy Crockett ranch, basically caravans, which were OK but then with so much to do we only really slept there. we were self catering and there is a huge hypermarket/shopping village nearby so we used to go and stock up and make picnic lunches to take with us.

one thing that did suprise me was the army patrolling around (not actually in the park but around cars parks and enterance plaza)- but a huge American enterprise is a target I suppose.

as far as the kids, they absolutley loved the place and they want to live there, it is geared up for the little ones, the shows were very good (mix of french and english) and the rides were busy at times, we got there early to get on particular rides then just had to suck it and see with the others.

would I go again? - yes
would i need to remortgage to go again? - probably

Ok, let's get one thing straight - it's Disney. Culture it ain't, but you wouldn't go to Vienna to meet cartoon characters would you?

We went about 9-10 years ago with some friends, all of us adults. We had a good time - and particularly enjoyed the rodeo show (or whatever it's called). It was expensive yes, but then most things done well are.

If Americans are good at anything it's the fake, manufactured stuff - and it's been transplanted successfully into the outskirts of Paris (minus the annoying Americans).

I'd do four days max - a) you'll of done most of it by then, b) you'll be broke. We were booked to stay in the Cheyenne lodges I think, but got upgraded to the New England hotel and it was pleasant enough.

We went in February - ok it was raining, but the queues were a lot less than I expect they would be in June/July.

If you're looking for culture, don't go. If you're looking for good old fashioned family orientated fun then go - what's the worst that could happen?

I never expected culture on a Disney trip
Little One always cries on any rides we have ever tried to take her on ... the slow snails are as daring as she gets. She also gets very homesick for her mummy, even with one night away. We've never travelled further than 40 miles with her.

I'm dreading it, to be honest, but I will compromise on 3 days ... not in the summer hols (too busy) ... not in Feb (wet, cold and miserable).

I'll be my usual tight @rse and steal the breakfast rolls to eat at lunchtime.

I feel a bit better about it now.

There is/was a chaming little ride we went on - it reminded me a bit of Willy Woka, you're on a little "boat" and travel through different "lands". Very cute - little'un might be alright with that...

I'd wait a year, personally...at least until she can face rides a bit more vigorous. Bless.
