  • Disappearing Email

We just nipped out for a couple of hours, but before I left I saw an email had just arrived and took a quick look at it.

I just sat down to read it properly, but it's gone! It's possible that a tiny toddler hand has smashed down on the keyboard and done something random, but at worst, it should be in the trash bit.

Can someone 'withdraw' an email once it's sent? I'm a bit baffled.

You can withdraw mail Rhona, I've had to do this at work on the rare occasion that I've made a glaring mistake. There is only a short time to retract it. This sometimes also prints a "sender wishes to withdraw" message which is a bit of a give away. If it turns out that you have totally trashed it, you can also use the tool "recover deleted items". Annoying isn't it when this sort of thing happens?

hum, if you had a glance at it (opened it) then it can't be recalled.

Have you done a search for it?

Yes - that's what's baffling. I have about 12 emails from the same place, and found all of those with a search, but not today's.

It wasn't the news I was hoping for, so I'm hoping that they've vanished it to replace with the 'Great news!' version.

From what you've said though, that's not likely. I might email them and confuse things further...

It is a work system or external? If works, they can take it back but usually they can't if it is external [outlook or macmail]....

            Rhona,
if I remember correctly you're running macbook.I had similar issue with mine-about 3 months after we bought I had a message saying"mail was running on auto mode,do you want to switch it off"(or something like that). Can't remember the option I chose but afterwards I didn't receive any mails from my sister for about a month(found the old ones no problem). It turned out that these computers are such smart a&%@es that they sort your emails themselves.Mine marked my sister's address as junk-that's why I stopped receiving them-they were in junk folder(not thrash one).Check your mail settings,it will show you which addresses are marked as spam and unmark them.

It normally sorts emails as and when they come into the in-box and not after you've read them. It sounds like it's been trashed and then the trash box has automatically emptied it self. Don't think you'll recover it I'm afraid.
