    Disapearing compost

    I've spent an hour on the internet today trying to get hold of New Horizons Organic Peat Free compost and cant find any bar a site that is selling them in lots of 10 or more. I usually buy from ahs but they dont seem to have any. Does anybody know where I can buy New Horizons compost from. Ive run out and am in despirate need!!!!

    I thought Wiggly Wigglers sold it, but I've just looked and it's now 'Genie' who I've never heard of

      I've always bought it from Rivendell's garden centres, not sure if they're nationwide but think they cover a fair bit of the country and you can certainly get it in single bags in Warrington so would have thought you could in Manchester also.

      Actually thinking again, it wasn't Rivendell at all, was one of the Wyevale ones, hence why I was thinking of a chain. They don't show compost on their web site as far as I can see but I definitely bought some from there a few weeks ago and have seen it in other GCs round here also inc High Legh amongst others.

          Thanks everybody. Its hard to try new brands once youve found one you really like. I guess we are all creatures of habit............well I am anyway!

            Looks like its disapeared off the face of the earth, no online sites seem to be selling it by the bag. Has anybody tried fertile fibre organic peat free multipurpose compost? Is it any good?

              Genie is a brand develped by vital earth, here in derbyshire Ashbourne precisely they have a large unit where they take all the compostable waste collected by councils including raw household food, though i believe they can take cooked waste to a certain amount.

              then they pack it in containers and sterilise it to kill of certain bacterias from the food then they turn it out into a state of the art composting area where it is kept aerated and turned. they pack it into bags and sell our waste back to us !!!!!!!!
              cracking money making idea councils charge us to collect it
              give it away to save paying landfil charges and winner sells it back to us
              humph!!!!!!!!!

                Yes, I'm using both the seed mix and the multipurpose. It's lovely stuff to work with, doesn't have the large 'bits' that I used to have to sieve out of the New Horizon. It re-wets easily and isn't too heavy to carry around. You can have it delivered from the Organic gardening catalogue.

                I recommend it highly.

                Incidentally, Gardening Which looked at various composts earlier this year, and they found that the New Horizons growbags seemed to have better quality compost than the actual bags of compost - so you might want to get those and tip out the contents!

                  Great advice kentvegplot I think I might have a stab at the fertile fibre multipurpose. I actuall use their seed compost and its very good. Thanks for the help.

                      Ooh, didn't know B&Q stocked it, they haven't done in the past when I've looked and they're own brand peat free is rubbish.

                      Just looked, it's not on their web site so am not at all sure that they'll have any
