  • Difficult weekend

It was #2 son's birthday yesterday, and it was going to be hard work doing the baking and keeping half a dozen 12 year old's under some kind of control. About lunch time we noticed it was a bit chilly, and had a fiddle with the thermostat... Nowt happened! The flippin boiler has conked out... The pilot light will light, but won't stay lit, so think the thermocouple needs replacing. Not a major job, but we're stony, stony broke for a week or so!

So, we found/borrowed a couple of heaters, and got the fire lit in the living room, and carried on trying to get a party tea organised. The lads weren't too bad, mild silliness was as bad as it got, but I was Totally Exhausted by the time they went home. (Proud of meself though, the party tea was still 90% home made despite my stupid ankle!)

But, it's gone from bad to worse this morning. Jez got a phone call at half 7 to say his Dad has been whipped into hospital with a suspected stroke He's 78, and had a couple of mild strokes before...

So, you lovely Grapes, if you could please pray/cross fingers or anything else you can think of, as my poor OH is in a bad way with his head anyway, and I dread to think what it would do to him to lose his Dad

Had a call from OH, FiL is speaking, although wonkily, and trying to send Jez home. The hospital is very good, he will get excellent treatment there. But I'm still on my knees, figuratively.
Managed to feed the kids, and keep the fire going. So far, so good... Got a chicken to cook next...

My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things

Fate is smiling on us in one way - the boiler didn't conk out til the freezing weather passed And we're not due to drop below freezing til Friday, by which time it'll be mended hopefully. We have an imersion heater for the water, so could be a lot worse

Amazing and admirable that you find little silver linings! Many wouldn't be able to. Really hope your FiL is doing ok, and you have better news to report soon.
