  • Dahlia's or.........?

The folk that owned this place before us were real dahlia lovers and we have them all over the place.

We put a new greenhouse up last year which is parallel to an old stone wall with about a 3 foot gap between the long side and the wall. at the moment it is full of dahlia's but of course when my tomatoes are in full growth, no-one can see the dahlia's at all.

As we are trying to get to a point where we are as self sufficient as possible, I'm wondering if I should haul out all the dahlia's and plant something like a pear tree - the kind that you grow along a wall (cant remember what they are called!!) or even a grape vine....

any one got any thoughts or suggestions for me please?

I love dahlia's as they were my dads favourite along with roses, I planted 6 in my garden last year and my sister has a few so we are going to take some from each other. Is there somewhere else you could move them to. You can dig them up cut down to a couple of inches above the ground first, and dry them by hanging them upside down and storing in a frost free place. Plant them again in the spring. If you want to get rid I will gladly take some off your hands.
    Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
    and ends with backache
