  • Creative or Crafty? Care to Share?

Anyone doing anything creative or crafty?

Sitting at the sewing machine is a no-no just now, so I'm hand appliqueing some wool felt cushions instead.

What are you crafting or creating?

Currently I'm hemming voile curtains for the new house. I made four yesterday, and I've got two more to do today.

Later I've got to trim and laminate the new look membership cards for the Garden Society.

I'm just taking a quick break from creating a tidy home out of a messy one.

I've always fiddled around with different things, but don't kid myself that I'm doing anything that deserves a price tag! Loads of the handcrafted stuff I've seen over recent years looks so similar, as the fixings are so accessible now, and the 'good' stuff stands out a mile. I tend now to pour any creativity into doing crafts and things with our little girl, now she's almost old enough to be a bit creative, and we do tons of cutting and sticking, painting and glittery stuff.

I do fancy having a bash at sewing though - I want to try and make a cushion, and was going to ask for suggestions for a basic machine to buy, if anyone wants to point me in the right direction. Not too expensive, in case it ends up at the back of the cupboard. Which it might do.

Mr R often wishes I could be that creative.

I'm in the process of quilting a double bed sized quilt for a family friend who's getting married in summer.

WOW! That's BEAUTIFUL! Gosh, I wish I was that way inclined. I occasionally knit myself a scarf, but that's it.

I was put off sewing by university when I spent every Monday afternoon for a year making a jumpsuit. (Fashionable, well, it was in the early 1980s! ) As I didn't know what I was doing the teacher made me double sew, double hem and all sorts every blinking part of it! I never did wear the thing. Any sewing Mr DDL has to do it. (and he's very good)

That's beautiful - I love it. THAT'S the kind of skill I admire, must be wonderful to create something so special.

I am knitting a sweater for Madmax, charcoal grey cashmere and silk mix yarn. I bought the yarn on a cone single ply so have had to wind off balls and re-wind them to get a ball with six strands to make double knitting weight - what fun!!!

Beautiful Flummery. Do you ever sit and do nothing?

I don't know whether making heart shape doughnuts counts as creativity but that's what I am up to. Apparently it's 'doughnut week' so this is my contribution to Valentines Day.

OH found one at our local dump for £3. I've had it about 8 years and it still works perfectly

Flum - that quilt is beautiful

Although debatable (particularly by a certain art gallery)my art is photography, and my passion within it is pinhole. I have a web site with some images on but am not allowed to put it on here, as its considered advertising.
I also have started making altered books. Which is fantastic hobby and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
At the moment my biggest inspiration in Raymond Meeks, please look him up, his work is ethereal and elegmatic.
I also am a (very) novice bookbinder. Not sure if thats is classed as a craft?
                            I write too...
I hope that is what you meant by the question. and I dont stand out like a sore thumb!
I can knit, and sow (but choose not to) and I love cooking

I wish I had the talant to create a quilt like yours Flummery

Flum - Beautiful quilt and I love your fabrics, they don't look contrived they look like proper patchwork if you see what I mean.

Rhona - Try one of these, I got one for Christmas and it's great. And your little one will be able to use it too when she's bigger. It's basic but doesn't take up too much room and it can be fixed at any Janome retailer.

Paul , we have photographers at our fairs, it certainly is a craft. And you can 'sow' that's why you're on this gardening forum I'll check out that artist in a while.

                              Bren, the doughnuts sound wonderful.

Shirl & Jardiniere, I really have to admire your dedication with those knitting projects. I knit baby clothes when needed, but that's my limit. My latest knitting project was cupcake egg cosies and I wrote (?) the pattern myself.
