Always have a complicated spredsheet open so you can move quickly between the vine and work. That's what I used to do

Ooh, that's no good!

Perhaps we could all head our posts 'Very important and job specific enquiry for Ms Atkinson'?

I'm with Mandy - practice using the button which switches your screens and always have something like a spreadsheet open ready to swap!

Yeah - and (from experience) don't look guilty when you are doing it!

Maybe we should ask GYO to place a panic button somewhere on the forum!

Just view it normally and if anyone comes up just shout to someone over the other side of the office "it must just be your machine.....mine gets on the internet just fine".

Default Haha!

Working in IT this one makes me smile widely.

If your employer has an IT section and they do their job properly then:
  • lots of websites are inaccessible
  • internet usage logs are recorded
  • you signed up to an "acceptable use of IT" policy
  • attempts to access some websites could flag up there and then
e.g. e-bay is inaccessible at my offices

My place of work is the same....shades of Big Brother methinks!

Luckily I live where I work so I just need to pop upstairs and use my own personal computer!

Thanks guys - you've made me smile on this one!

And NOG I just love your idea .........
And thanks Nicos I could be researching - I'm doing a landscaping piece at the present time

Yes ..... I know I should be working, but when staff are sneaking off outside to the car park for a smoke break, another load are talking non-stop about what they watched on the TV last night, another lot tucking into their bun run delights, I don't normally feel guilty about a quick peek at the Grapevine. Far healthier, informative and also fat freee!

Pressing Alt + Tab together will bring up a small window with all the programs/documents you have running/open - keep pressing tab to move between each one

Practice makes perfect with this function - I should know, I've been using it successfully for years!!! lol

As Peter says, you might not be aware that your company is keeping tabs on your internet use, my O.H. 's firm have some 'blocking' which doesn't just block 'dodgy' websites but some that are totally innocent & they can get a record of all sites visited from the staffs company laptops, blackberries etc. They seem to be fairly tolerant though as long as you don't spend all day on personal business! Luckily I log on here at home so don't have those problems.

Ctrl + Tab is better as it hops straight out of what you are in to the next running application, without having to pick something from a list.

As far as I am aware, Ctrl + Tab moves between tabs or documents in tabbed or multi-windowed applications, Alt + Tab moves between applications.

Sorry if anyone is glazing over, but it is an important dfference. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, Firefox or Opera browsers, it will just move to the next browser tab, not to the spreadsheet you have on standby!

It is the electronic version of the old typewriter tab key. Generally far left above the Caps Lock, and larger than the other keys on the far left, it shows a left arrow above a right arrow, sometimes with the word Tab above them.

Cool, thanks Scared 55.

Had not used that before, what it does it do? New lap top!

On my Mac you just press F9 but did not know there was a function on the PC.

Ta, Mandy
