    Congratulations...WOOTTON BASSETT

    Wooton Bassett is a small town in Wiltshire which up to a few years ago maybe not many people had heard of.

    Wooton Bassett will be known as "Royal" Wooton Bassett very soon. They are to be given Royal status for there welcoming home of fallen Soldiers. When military funeral repatriations drive through, the people of the town line the street and show the respect these Men and Women so fittingly deserve. For this they are being recognised. Not only do they do this with compassion and no wish of thanks, they also welcome the grieving families and friends as well.

    I'd like to say a Big Thank You.

    I always think these very sad repatriation processions are made so dignified by the simple silent presence of the people of Wooton Basset. They deserve the honour and they have my respect.
    Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

          Very well deserved, when Mark died (my cousin) they gave him such a beautiful send off after the brought him home.

                          I'd feel a lot better about it if a) there was no need for them to come through, and b) it wasn't a sop because they're shutting lyneham.
                          Yup, all the news from yesterday was about the name, which is not going to put food on the table for the people who'll be out of a job.

                            Taff I understand your complaint, and I agree with it in a way, but being there last time I was on leave, to welcome home a friend who I will no longer drink with, I was overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion of the people of Royal Wootton Basset. As Flum said, their dignity and silence as my mate was driven through was tangible.

                              I know, I know, I just get annoyed, I see the people coming in to stand there who are too busy putting on their lipstick for the cameras to pay attention, I see some of the local people who are enjoying their moment of fame because they want to be in charge and go round being self-important, etc etc.
                              Which is what people outside don't see.
                              Ignore me, I'm just being grumpy. And I hate seeing them come through.
