Vista's the operating system, not the programme.

If the document is a Word document, you shoudl still be able to open it.

Documents in the Vista version of Word have a slightly different file extension I believe, which the older Word doesn't recognise. I'm sure the OH found a way round it before we upgraded to Vista, but he's not around right now. Have you tried the Help pages on MSN?

Pukka, what is the file extension? If it's .docx, then indeed it is the newer version of Word.

There are various ways to get round this.

In the new Word you can save in the old format, so one way would be to get your client to save & send it again.

The free Star Office can handle the new format, so you could download and install that.

The new Microsoft Office package can obtained for less than £100 these days.

Or you can download and install this:

Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Guess it depends on your budget and urgency.

        Hope this helps.
