My laptop seems to be playing up when it gets a little too hot it shut's itself down and turning it back on just results in persistant shut downs, it seems you have to wait for it to cool down?? Any ideas?

Have looked at buying another unless I can get it fixed, was looking at getting a Netbook as we only really use it for general internet surfing/shopping, and for holiday pictures. Are netbooks any good for the simple stuff?

    Thanks

make sure the vents for the cooling fans are not full of fluff this is the usual case of over heating laptops, also if you use it on your knee you might be blocking these vents, are the fans running.

Have you looked at the fan and checked how to clear it out [it gets clagged up with dust and each laptop will have a different way of getting it cleared].

Google 'clearing fan laptop' and the name and model of your machine and you should find destructions....don't forget to remove the battery and unplug before you do it though!

Wot they said. If the fan has stopped working it is generally a fairly simple repair and depending on your level of confidence you could either do it yourself or get it done for a few quid.

Ok thanks, will take a peek and see if I can get it working when I get home from work. I do not think the fans are running at all, not from what I noticed last night when it constantly kept shutting down on me anyway.

I get about an hour out of it before it shut's down so it's not the end of the world, just annoying when you are about to book something or looking something up.

If I can not get it working then... Is a NetBook worth getting?

Get one of those cooler pad things. They cost about twenty quid, and are powered by a usb connector. I use one all the time for my Mac, and it's fantastic for keeping it cool.
