  • Comfrey and Nettle Tea

I'm looking at making comfrey and nettle teas.

Which crop could I use them both on? (Not at the same time!) I'm looking to compare their effects.

I know they provide different nutrients, but is there one crop which they can both be applied to?

Would lettuce be a good crop to try them on?

I've been using comfrey tea on my sprouts which were ravaged by cabbage whites. So far so good. If you have even a couple of stalks you could try out each variety.

I use nettle and borage tea on everything once a week April to August ish. Very unscientific as they probably have different properties, but my tea is usually a blend of whatever I have or can find.
The ditches were cleared a while back and there's a goodly amount of nettles coming through. I'll go harvest tomorrow.

I use comfrey tea on everything. I don't have enough nettles to make tea.

Using manure tea and lucerne hay tea, on lettuce, chard, broad beans and mange tout here and doing well. The lettuce are going great but the chard is really kicking in.

Lettuce doesn't need any feeding at all.

Longer-growing or greedy plants need feeding, such as brassicas.

My feed is a mix of comfrey/nettle/any other weeds + slugs n snails. It goes on beans, pumpkins, corn, brassicas, spuds, everything really, although nettle is higher in nitrogen, lower in potassium so is best for leafy veg, while comfrey has the K, which is better for fruiting crops

I've found that brassicas really respond well if the tea is applied to the plant itself. It's amazing to think that something so stinky can make something taste so good

LOL I thought you meant for human consumption for a minute then!

                  Doh!
I make both nettle and comfrey tea - pretty much any plant responds to it!
