  • Collecting... wade, crown derby?

Does anyone on here collect anything?

I'm a huge Wade collector - collection is still small compared to other people I have come across.

    Have you found any bargains?

Slugs - every night. Bargain Sorry.

Cookery books. Or at least I used to until we give up material wealth and moved to France since when I've not bought a single book. Hurts as I used to manage bookshops and spend a fair to middling chunk of my income as staff purchases The removal men were not impressed....

I've never quite understood what drives people to collect lots of a particular thing, unless it's for investment to sell when the price rises. So often the collection is wrapped up and put away rather than displayed, and if you don't look at it, where's the point in having it?

If I couuld afford it, I would buy one big beautiful piece of Moorcroft, put it on the dresser where I could see it and touch it every day, and that would satisfy me and keep me happy and content. I don't think I would be driven to get more. (But who knows, maybe I would )

On the theme of Wade - I collect Fosters Pottery (honeycombe) and also Scheurich pottery (W.Germany).

Its all 60s/70s stuff and possible an antique of the future.

Main reason for buying is I LOVE the designs and its affordable.

Also have had a recent great find of a William Bowyer watercolour from 1969, a charity shop find and it 'could' be worth a bob or two. If so then I will sell it as my house is too precarious for such a potentially valuable work of art to be kept - cats, dogs, smoker etc. If big wads are realised I will donate a further 10% (at least) to the shop from whence it came! Here's hoping!

I inherited a few pieces of Goss - but looking in to it they are not worth much and most of them are mended
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Because I'm from the Potteries originally I have several pieces of Wedgwood, Doulton, Moorcroft and Wade but found serious collecting took up too much space and was very costly and very time consuming so I had to rein myself in. Also very disappointed that a lot of these products are now not made in the Potteries. In a little while we will be downsizing and it it going to be fun deciding what to keep.

I have so many collections, mouldering in the attic or unloved in cabinets - not all of them mine but inherited. There are the paperweights, stone eggs, crystal glasses, plates from abroad, Mrs Beetons Cookery Books and my personal onetime obsession - Tortoises! (not living - but all in hibernation in the attic).
These days "collecting" is synonymous with "dust collecting" so I try to avoid it.

I was offered £50 for my full Wedgewood teaset - Apple Blossom, now discontinued, never used - that one is going up in the loft till the price rises... I do wish the Potteries were still going as their quality is unique.

My mum used to collect Lladro, and I think part of the collection will be coming to me when Dad finally moves into a smaller house. I'm not going to be in any rush to add to it though

I collect weeds. Or, rather, my garden does.

Had I the money, and the space, I would collect furniture oddities and Objets d'Art, and probably even more books and bookcases!

                            I would collect cars,

                            and Chickens,

                            and Plants; indoor and out,

                            and...

I dunno, random 'stuff' I guess!

My mum had a Myott Royal Mail cake stand which I ended up with after she died. The coloured one. I patiently bought bits and pieces off fleabay and now have a full dinner set, full tea set inc cream and sugar bowl, serving dishes coffee pot. It really is lovely when set out but it lives in a display cabinet in a room that only we see. Silly really but I love it.
