  • Clapham Junction advice

Any Grapes use Clapham Junction regularly?

Im traveling via Clapham Junc. on Monday from Victoria Station with a small child, buggy and rucksack and wondering if the tube is do-able or if I need to think Taxi, baring in mind I have 20 mins to get from Vic to CJ to catch the next train in the journey.....

Any advice would be gratefully received from a Country Mouse

It's best you catch the overground train. That takes 5 minutes from victoria train station and gets you to clapham junction train station. Which London station are you coming from?

London has plenty of overground connections. Much preferable to the tube because you will have less stairs to negotiate with so much luggage!

Ah thats very helpful indeed. no one said there was an overground connection. I'm arriving via coach @ vic bus station, across to vic train station & then onto clapham junction for basingstoke!

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

I can't find any trains from Victoria to Basingstoke. They all go from London Waterloo.

Also, the trainline charges a lot of fees. They have a booking fee and a credit card fee. It's much cheaper to book trains using the train companies website. You can buy train fares for any destination, you don't have to travel on their route.

Eg. you can buy london-birmingham on southern rail website even though it will be on a virgin train.

I use public transport a lot

You can get from Vic to Bas - but you have to change [at Clapham Junction].

Funny really cos up until 5 years ago driving used to give me panic attacks so getting on public transport and letting someone else do it all was a total breeze. So easy I did it for 7 years and went all over the country and Europe via planes, trains and buses

Have to admit it is now taking me outside of my comfort zone (considerably) 'cos I've only even been to London a handful of times ever and never done anything like this at with my most precious cargo but figure it will be a good adventure for us both and I must have more faith in my abilities.

(Yes I have questioned (understatement) my sanity but we all know that's been missing for years).

I have always used public transport.
I have no choice unless my other half drives me(she can't drive far)
And I have few problems I have a bus pass & a senior citizens rail card.

Appologies in advance if I upset anyone living at Clapham but the only time I've ever been to Clapham Junction it was like entering a time warp.

I looked out of the train window and everything looked to be a snapshot from the late fifties early sixties.............everything appeared to be in monochrome as well!

Luckily I don't have to visit the smoke very often!

CJ is all overground, there's no tube there

How did your trip work out?
