  • Chinese pancakes

Does anyone know if any of the major supermarket chains sell the thin chinese pancakes like you get with crispy duck? I've tried Sainsburys & Asda with no luck. They have the complete kits, but I just want the pancakes and do the rest myself. I've seen recipes for making the pancakes yourself, but am not sure I'd be able to get them thin enough for my liking.

I once got some from a Chinese stall in the local market. The bags had hundreds in and could be kept frozen and used as and when needed. Maybe you can find a Chinese shop or stall at a market.

I've made them, and you can get them really thin, but they don't taste quite the same.
I used to buy a pack of the ready made ones from my local Sainsburys, but when I wanted them recently, they had discontinued them.

Hoo Hing are a national chain of wholesale and public food markets, my friend Wing goes there for stock for his shop. If you want to know how to get the pancakes i could ask him, hing, kong or any member of his famiy for you.

Waitrose sell them. I've got some in the freezer and was looking for a veggie recipe to use them.

Do you have a car? Why don't you go up to Purley Way and get some from Wing Yip?

Thanks for that SlugLobber, if I'm ever over that way I'll check it out, but a 40 mile each way trek just to get some pancakes would be a bit extravagant

I love Wing Yip and always spend a fortune, haven't been in ages, go to Costco more these days. The Lee Kum Kee, sauce for seafood is to die for and I bulk buy it for us and my dad as he loves it also, just right for 2 people.

There is a chinese/japanese shop in Richmond. Go up M3 onto A316, upto Richmond, over the Thames and go left at the next roundabout and it is literally right there on your left, if you get to Kew Gardens you've gone too far.
I'm new to veggies, but trying !

I decided to investigate whilst out in Richmond today and there on the chinese ready meal section in Waitrose were chinese pancakes, 10 or 12 for 99p with a shelf life of 5 Nov so not bad.

I've tried this recipe for duck and also crabmeat and sweetcorn soup which I did yesterday and it was lovely. BBC - Food - Recipes - Crispy fragrant duck with pickled radish salad

I saw some yesterday but a bit far for you as it was at Endsleigh Garden Centre near Plymouth, they also had some weight watchers jelly which we cant get anymore my oh likes these cos they are sugar free and vegetarian. Strange that you can get them at a garden centre but not a supermarket.
