Chilli Event

Err I have to admit to being guilty of this, went last year...

There's LOTS of varieties of chillies, plus other veggies like toms and some squash and some herbs and some herbacious perennials...oh and there were some 'chilli product' sellers, like sauces and stuff. Oh and all of the different Simpsons Seeds...

Its not a huge place, but its in a lovely spot and there's a pub nearby, so it could be a day out.

I have a dream to go to a Texas chili cook off... perhaps a honeymoon destination, I'll suggest it to my OH

Went to Simpsons today; very excited about it. I have to say I was a little disappointed. I did buy 4 chilli plants (and a few other bits) and felt that the prices of them were very good (although the leeks I bought were v. expensive; not price labelled but I got them anyway as everything else seemed so reasonable and ended up being stung for it) but I was expecting more of an 'event'. Yes, there were lots of varieties of chilli and pepper, plus some other plants, but there was only the one stall of chilli stuff (sauces), whereas I'm sure their website says 'stalls' plural. AND I ended up being charged for one more chilli plant than I had!
However, the good prices and good selection of plants made up for it and at least I'd know what to expect next time. Plus, I specifically wanted numex twilight, which the chap was able to sort me out with even though they weren't out on display. I seem to have had a problem with seed sowing/labelling this year, as many of my chilli and pepper seeds seem to have morphed into tomato plants!

Thanks for that Waffler, it's always good to know what other people think. I was going to go but have got man flu A lot of these "Events" appear to be "bigged up", I have to say I went to the RHS Wisley Grow Your Own Event back in March and it was a great day out, but I was disappointed at how little GYO stuff there actually was.

May give the West Dean Chilli Festival in August a go, that was featured on a Rick Stein cookery program and looked pretty good.
