  • A Challenge Of All Challenges!

As you know, I'm always up for a challenge........... When searching through some seeds I came across "Asclepias Curassavic" aka Milkweed. After further research, I found they are the only foodplant of the Monarch Butterfly. Only a handfull of these creatures have been seen in the UK so my challenge next year is to firstly try to grow some of these plants then more importantly attract one of the beautiful butterflies. Advice from you budding Lepidopterists as always will be greatly received.

Ooooooooooooo they look so pretty. Apparently easy to grow according to chilterns and a half hardy perennial that will flower within a few months. I might have to give them a bash.

We used to have it growing in the garden but it seems to have disappeared over the years. Odd how that happens

I've just ordered from eBay 50 seeds Asclepius tuberosa (Butterfly Weed) .......

And to get free P&P I just HAD to order some other seeds, these are for my 'rockery' area by the front drive, currently weed inhabited ...... Another little project for next year .........

So, I ONLY spent £4.21 .........!!! Pretty happy with that...!!!

Not that I noticed BM but we do seem to get a fair few in the garden anyway.

I think I may give this challenge a miss BM. My chances of attracting monarch butterflies up here is unlikely to say the least.
Good luck to everyone taking part. The farther down south you are the higher your chances ( I'm talking nearly falling in the sea down south )

Aye Lass, I think the nearest you'd come to a Scottish Monarch would be Mary..............
