  • Be careful out there Gardeners!!!!

Just got back from A&E.....i was doing some bits and bobs in the patch and bent down to pick out a weed and went straight down onto a Pea stick....with my EYE!!!!

Ah man is it painful, the stick went down the side of my eyeball and scratched the cornea...luckily its will mend over the next week but i wouldnt wish the pain on anyone!

I'll be putting something on top of theose sticks now (not bottles cause poppy steals them!)

This Gardening can be a dangerous sport!!!!

    Be careful out there Team!!

Ouch! I mainly grow tall peas which are supported off 8' canes so no worries there but the shorter ones can be a problem.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

        I've done it before

I now only use canes if they stand higher than 5ft when inserted into the ground!

That is an horrendous story. I place corks on the end of all canes. Saves my eyes but can't garden anymore cause I spend the evenings down AA!

Thanks for the warning Danmon. My garden is just full of little sticks and I am well aware of the hazzard but reading your tale has convinced me they have to go. Better safe than sorry.

I'm sure folk think I'm mad when they visit. All my canes have pen tops on them, I bought a bag of markers from £ shop just for the tops then threw the pens away.........

Hope your eye gets better soon. I've come close to doing the same a few times, reading this I'd better be more careful and put something on the top of the canes.
