  • Buying from the producers

I've just had a newsletter from Fr*nchi seeds and having read it, I felt like applauding!
In essence they are saying that we should endeavour to buy all that we can directly from the producer, not from someone who packages and retails. Whilst they link this with the horsemeat scandal they are suggesting that we should also buy our veggies from the person who grows them or the local greengrocer who should know their provenance. Of course the next step is to buy your seeds from the "hobby seed companies" who produce their own seeds rather than a company that merely packages them.
    I quote :-
"Don't assume that the seed in your seed packet has been produced by the company selling it OR that it is even local !! you should know so you can make an informed decision and on which country the seed comes from.
If we continue to treat seeds, meat, veg and food in general as a commodity to trade and not support those who produce with passion, respect and pride, we will lose them."

I guess this is why so many of us support "Real Seeds" and similar small producers.
Let us all support small, local producers in all the ways that we can. It is clear that we cannot rely on the major retailers to know what is happening in their supply chain.

Franchi seeds do produce their own seeds, which is why they can say that

I know, Thelma but there aren't many seed retailers who can say that!

I was just saying - cos your post seemed to plug Real seeds and small producers and forget about Franchi themselves and I really like their seeds
