  • Burns Day

Haggis Neeps and Tatties on the menu for tea tomorrow evening. Our own tatties and our own swedes but had to buy the haggis. I'm just too old to be able to catch one of the three legged beasties nowadays so have to rely on shop bought

I would be catching some but they only tend to show up higher north. We have burns night dinner at work and on the menu is Fish and Chips , so will just get my rod out tomorrow morning, lots easier

Rats look a but like a four legged version of haggis, so it may be 'rats n neeps' next year!

Haggis? I thought the national dish was deep fried lasagne?

Was scratching my head trying to think why you should be bothered with rats Snadge but then remembered that you have chooks. Keeping the blighters away when they know they have a free and available source of food is going to be difficult. I think I would be for treating them to liberal treats of warfarin but keeping it away from the chooks will be difficult and I'm assuming that the chooks will want to feed on any rat carcases as well? I have seen a hen eat a mouse. Dunno what to suggest matey.

Anyway, I have to dispel this myth that rats resemble haggis. It is so not true. Haggis have no ears or tails and only have three legs which are of varying lengths tapering from short at one side to long at the othe rso as to make it easier for them to traverse the hill sides.

With all the cold weather up north atm the wee timorous beasties came down for a rare sighting in the midlands.

So I ran three over yesterday with the pram when I had the chance!

(and thanks, just reminded me that I needed to defrost some mince asap!)

Why didn't I think of that? Don't answer! Down here in South Wales those who live in the Valleys have one leg shorter than the other. They rarely mention their 3rd leg! (Jake the Peg?)
