Ok so, the clocks go forward tomorrow night/Sunday morning - I get that - but, what is now (today) 0530hrs brings light - come Monday morning what was (yesterday, are you keeping up?) 0530hrs (and light) will then be 0630hrs and dark

    Wos that all about then

what will be 05.30 on Sunday would have been 04.30 if the clocks hadn't gone forward - hence still dark. I promise that by 06.30 it will be the same light level as 05.30 on Saturday

Hope that clears it up for you Piskie

Confuses the hell out of me and my dogs and (at this time of the year) I get an hour less in bed

I could go on for ages but stopping now. *gets quietly off soap box and heads for the norty corner.

            Wiki says:

Daylight saving time (DST; also summer time in British English—see Terminology) is the convention of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn. Modern DST was first proposed in 1907 by the English builder William Willett.[1] Many countries have used it since then; details vary by location and change occasionally.
The practice is controversial.[2] Adding daylight to afternoons benefits retailing, sports, and other activities that exploit sunlight after working hours,[3] but causes problems for farming, entertainment and other occupations tied to the sun.[4][5] Traffic fatalities are reduced when there is extra afternoon daylight;[6] its effect on health and crime is less clear. Although an early goal of DST was to reduce evening usage of incandescent lighting, formerly a primary use of electricity,[7] modern heating and cooling usage patterns differ greatly, and research about how DST currently affects energy use is limited and often contradictory.[8]
DST's occasional clock shifts present other challenges. They complicate timekeeping and can disrupt meetings, travel, billing, recordkeeping, medical devices, and heavy equipment.[9] Many computer-based systems can adjust their clocks automatically, but this can be limited and error-prone, particularly when DST rules change

It makes me chuckle that we go on and on about it as if we are the only country to do it.

Makes me chuckle that ever year we go on about stopping doing it, but every year we keep doing it!

I just have to decide if I'm gonna be "nice Nurse" and let my patients stay in bed or "nasty Nurse" and boot them all up for obs!!

Or you could cheat (like I do) and put the clocks forward before going to bed early - that way same time in bed.

We never doubted that but still nice to have a shorter shift though

Is there any good reason why we still have this rigmarole of putting the clocks back and forth???? I understand the need during the war years etc. but does it serve any useful purpose nowadays?
I'd give up chocolate but I'm no quitter!

I think the line they use these days is that they dont want school children coming home in the dark.

I have no idea. There's lots of strange and wonderful things about this country I will never understand...lets start with your use of cutlery. Knife and Fork...with PIZZA?

What is that all about then?
