  • Break In's Again

So it's about a year since the last wave, but it appears at least two plot holders have had their sheds broken into and one has lost (had stolen) 6 cabbages !!! There has to be a way to catch these beggers

    Bad news Cadders..
    .
Yesterday I put a small motion sensitive IR camera on my plot - to try to catch badgers / mices/ hedgehogs rather than thieves but that might be an option? Camera films in 720HD and records audio.
Camera cost about £24 - usb connected to a mobile phone battery/charger that cost £6 and records to a micro SD card that cost £5. Using that particular battery will record for approx. 30 hours

I would love to try this at our plot gate where someone constantly leaves the code unscrambled sometimes overnight despite prominent notices being displayed and instructions sent out to all plot holders. Could you give more details of where to obtain etc. much obliged. :-)

The Chinese are banging loads of them out - something like:
          https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Mi...era+monitoring

The one I got was direct from a 'Chinese Amazon' - can't find the exact model but this would give you some idea
Security Cameras - Cheapest Wireless IP Camera with Free Shipping

A lot of them have apps for android / iphone - some might require that they have an internet link - so you need to do a bit of digging into the specific model. I've modified mine so that it runs its own webserver and doesn't need internet connection to China

Rob Smith (allotment challenge guy) had one on his plot and (inadvertently) caught the woman breaking into his shed with it.

---------What is wrong with these people.......?????? Stealing cabbages.........?????? It's not like people can be that desperate for food, surely ........???? Or am I so out of touch/naive ........???

Good luck with your efforts to 'catch 'em' on camera though.

OK prevention being better than cure I've bought one of these again for less than a tenner on ebay ELRO SC11 110dB Wireless Alarm for Garden Shed/ Barn/ Garage Door/ Window

fix it just inside the door

                      # four digit code to arm it gives you time to close the door and get out of the shed

                      * four digit code to disarm once you open the door

^^^^^^^^^^Sorry to disappoint but I bought something similar for my shed at home, with the shed door open you still could not hear it in the house. Oh and it eats batteries.

To balance the review, I bought one for the shed, it's really loud & is very good on batteries.

I will let you guys know how good this is when it arrives, but 110bd isn't exactly a low volume. BM was that for the shed on the allotment or at home?

I too have a shed alarm and so far it's on the original batteries. It is loud and can be heard 150 yards away. My hope is the bstids will attend in the middle of the night and the sound will attract attention from nearby housing, at the very least it will dissuade them from loitering on site. I just hope they don't return another night with a match!
