  • Brands or Basics

I get so pee'd off every time I go to the supermarket & the prices have been hoiked.
I just wondered if it would be useful to pass on some Basic items which in my opinion are better than the Branded ones. Heres a couple I bought last week which I think are excellent.:
Village Bakery white toastie bread - Aldi 60p ish, better than the Burtons at war.
M Saver salad cream - Morrisons 30p ish - really beautiful.

We have a supermarket here called LeClerc who pride themselves on only selling brands...you cant buy a LeClerc this or a LeClerc that....so we go to Carrefour where they have a basics own brand range which includes smoked salmon.
Absolutely no help or use to anyone in Blighty but I just thought as I'm posting again I might as well join in on as many threads as I possibly can.....

Hi Jardiniere, long time no see.

I dont mind buying basic range in supermarkets as long as they are not full of fat, sugar, sweetener or salt.

I appreciate it is down to personal taste but I just thought as Texaco say "every little helps"

back to the OP... I shop mainly at Asda, so refers to there:
Sunnybisk - just as good as Weetabix and cheaper even than Asda own brand
Smart Price Sparkling table water 17p (not mineral water but who really cares)
Smart Price UHT skimmed milk is just as good as the Asda branded UHT skimmed milk, just without the difficult-to-recycle plastic pourer
Smart Price Longlife Apple and Orange juices (as above)
                            Mornflake Granola £2 for 1kg
Smart Price porridge oats (it's just porridge! Why pay more!)
Supermarket own brand breakfast cereals especially the high fruit muesli and "miniwheats" and "cheerios"
I do notice a difference with own brand flour, but that's because I'm a fussy baker.
