Think of a price, then half it In fact, best not to price most stuff at all - be prepared for people to bargain, a lot!
Take a flask, if you don't it's guaranteed you won't have time to go to the tea/coffee van.
Expect to have the 'pro's' crawling all over your stuff before you've even got it set up properly.

OH no i hate stalls with no prices, it gives you an idea of what they are expecting to knock a couple of quid off, i hate asking the price of things, and i won't buy anything, even if theres something i really want.

but i agree with the dealers crawling all over stuff, at the beginning of the day, don't let them haggle you (unless they want to buy the whole stall at a price you're happy with so you can go straight home).

but they will want it for resale,so as cheap as possible, and off a non dealer if it's something really good, they will pay more, if the dealer wants it that much it must be good, and he/she will come back.

Agree with other posters, also stand up and smile. You will feel as if a rictus is ingrained on your face at the end of the day but a smile encourages people .

Personally, I hate stalls with no prices. Haggling is just embarrassing - so un-British.

As for Car Boots in general ... never again. I'd rather sell from the comfort of my couch, on eBay.

anything that's left over can go to Charidee or FreeCycle

Dont feel hassled to lower the price, becareful if your selling gold - the traders will try and knock you down. Take plenty of carrier bags and lots of change.

If you get those really ealry people trying to raid your car before you have even turned the engine off tell them to go away!!!!! nicely.

            Have a good one

Take plenty of change because people will always give you notes. I usually have a float of at least £40 - £20 or so of that is in change. If possible have it around your waist in a bum bag - it makes it more secure. Know how much your float is so that you know exactly what you have made at the end of the day. Try to have a good level/variety of stock. Don't be afraid to talk to people as they go past - it makes them slow down and look at the stall. Don't drop your prices too quickly - if you're prepared to get up at an unearthly hour then you want a fair whack for your efforts.

Thanks everyone for the handy hints, have packed the car in anticipation....? Can I admit I am not looking forward to doing this, it's purely to get rid of the overwhelming tat I seem to have acquired! Am off to root around for change and to practice a forced smile in front of the mirror...

Hey Vicky how did it go, you certainly had the weather for it. I expect it could be the last decent weekend for booting this year.
I'm new to veggies, but trying !

Thank you Dipzy, I'm really rather touched that someone asked!!!
It went 'well' - more enjoyable than I expected and made £60 which was good. But a 40/60% split to Daughter means she's planning shopping trip....
Some really nice people - mostly those with dogs
And we enjoyed the scavange at the end of the piles people left (maybe I shouldn't admit to that?), but we gave away some clothes to some elderly, down and out gentlemen too (that were bound for charity shops) so we left with a good feeling!

                    Thanks, Vicky

I am exactly the same. I don't buy from places that don't price their stuff. Price things 10% more than what you really want from them and be prepared to haggle. Suddenly lowering prices with 30 mins to go (with a sign out front to say so!) will sell last minute clutter, too. I'm a sucker when people do that!!
