  • Blogging for me

    I fancy starting a blog.

    I had a quick look through some blog sites and was a bit lost off. I couldn't find anything I fancied................so.......I typed in 'Blogging for Dummies' into google and up popped a VERY useful .pdf file !

    EDIT .. hyperlink removed for legal reasons

    I still haven't had a chance to read it, apart from a cursory glance, but it appears to be just what I need?

    Any other interesting sites on setting up a FREE blog?

    Tripmeup has started a cracker- I finally got a chance to look over it at the weekend.
    The boy obviously has a chilli fetish- but the site is set out wonderfully. A great mix of pictures and descriptions- and most importantly an easy to use site that allows you to rummage about the place and look at previous stuff.

    There's been a few others that I've had a nosey at over the last couple of years - but my time on here has been limited recently, so I apologise for forgetting names.

      Take a look at mine on Blogger you don't need a manual to use it and set thinks up, I did sent Tripmeup a few pointers on navigating the environment and initial set up using the templates provided, but also look at Sparrows mudandgluts which is a different environment Wordpress I think, but it's still a free blog.

      Link to my blog in signature and link to mudandguts in my side panel on watched blogs, also link to tripmeup's All Thing's Gardening blog.

        Yep, sorry from my previous post - I'd forgotten the names of the blogs that I'd read.
        The ones you list (including your own) have been a great read - there are also many others on this site that I've had a nosey at, and thoroughly enjoyed.

        Whey to go Snadger, I'm looking forward to it, complete with a bit of 'North-East' humour.

          No need to be sorry I know people look at it because of the hit counter, but not that many leave comments, basically it's a resource for me to find thing I want to again and to record success and failure plus thoughts and reminders for the following year, and review when I start to worry, i.e. I got hit by blight in the second week of September last year and I'm hoping it's gonna be a lot later this year and the toms are not as red as they were last year.

              So..............can a blog be multi faceted? I.e a diary of ALL your interests (of which i have many) or is it better to stick with one interest?
              What I was thinking of was seperating interests and creating blogs within a blog?

                  Anyway - stop being shy and get your youtube channel up and running.

                  I'm sure we'll all enjoy your vids on getting your inca/astec/african inspired plot up to speed.

                    In Blogger you can have pages, but only one area where you can have a diary as such

                    They are free so do what I've done and put links to them all at the top of each blog landing page, take a look at the top left corner of any blog except the LRUG one and you will see

                    Cadalot Blogs

                    * Cadalot Services Ltd
                    * Cadalot AutoCAD
                    * Cadalot Cadvance
                    * Cadalot Generic Cadd Pro
                    * Cadalot IntelliCAD
                    * Revit Structure Learning Curve
                    * LRUG London Revit User Group - lrug.co.uk - you can set a domain name to jump to a blog

                    The CAD ones have not been updated in a very long time, as I'm no longer a CAD Manager and I've set up my own company - but the others are more up to date and the LRUG is the latest and shows the use of Pages as does my company blog which I use as my web site.

                      Yes you can do that, and onWordpress you can use categories to split out your posts onto different pages is all my videos are tagged as plot videos and automatically added to that page. There are lots of tutorials for blogs and I watched loads of those to get to grips with it. Blogs within blogs can get messy but if it's just for you does it matter? As long as you tag or use categories you'll be able to search for entries you want as your content grows. Using v specific tags helps, eg first blight if you want to keep track of when it hits year on year. Hope that helps.

                          Not at all, I like the template and the style you have set out using your service provider, but pages in blogger appear to be that, pages that you can't have dated blog items on and as I set mine up for the allotment in 2013 there is way to much to transfer elsewhere.

                            Hi Snadge
                            I'm a bit of a caveman when it comes to stuff like this but so the kids and family could look in on our plot antics I used Blogspot (it's free). Ours is (still) here Allotment 37
                            Don't know if it can be sub-divided, bit too tech for me.
