Default Big Jim Competition

The Big Jim Chillie Pepper competition officially opened yestarday and I've got my seeds in the airing cupboard so - the race is on. Good luck to all my fellow competitors. If anyone wants to enter but hasn't done it yet it's not too late. I think you can enter up until March.

I divided my seeds, there were 13, and put 7 in the airing cupboard and kept 6 in reserve just in case. Is this good tactics or should I go for all or nothing to be sure of getting the best one as early as possible. What a quandry !

I was holding off for a few weeks before sowing but I fear the seeds may need to get started earlier than I thought, I do have a heated grenhouse which will help.

Not received my seeds yet so obviously not done anything with them. How long did yours take to arrive?

Was intending to plant some in a couple of weeks time and then perhaps another couple of pots a few weeks later as earlier isn't always better - although probably better than too late!

I got my seeds within a day or two of ordering, but I may have to email my user name again as I still have not got one. Seeds going into airing cupboard tomorrow.

My seeds came in a few days Alison and that was in the run up to Christmas. If they don't arrive in next few days I would follow that up.

You could e mail your details again KirstyB and if that doesn't work ask LJ to contact Julian for you. Alison and I had probs getting registered but L J sorted that out. I think they're just very busy but if they're running a competition and selling seed I think they should be better organised.

Looking forward to getting started - good luck everyone!

Hi
Just to clarify on a comment above. We are running the competition but we aren't selling seeds. We recommended chileseeds.co.uk because we found them to be reliable, UK based, and able to ship to most countries for a small fee - in other words perfect for this global competition. But we are not associated with them in any way. If you do decide to order from them and have problems then you'll need to take it up with them directly. Having said that I'd be surprised if you did have any issues with them as they are nice people.

Thanks again all for entering the competition.

Julian

Mr D signed us up for this today, I mentioned it to him a while back and he said no, as we had enough seeds, but now he's seen its a competition he's changed his mind! We ordered our seeds today (along with another couple of mild chillis to try (Mr D has a duodenal ulcer so cant eat hot foods), so here's hoping we do ok! I think you'll be able to tell who we are on the leader board, Mr & Mrs Dobby!

Are you sure he emailed the address shown on the bigjim page?
I haven't had a Mr & Mrs Dobby so far today
If he tried to join at the same place he ordered seeds then it won't work, we are two separate entities as explained above.

Don't worry, I'll make sure you get on the leaderboard. I could do it now but I don't want to give everyone your uniqu ID - else they'll be able to make sure you don't win!

Big Jim is a mild variety so he should be ok with those. I'd be happy to post you some other mild varieties if you like.

Regards
Julian

Mrs D. I have edited your email address for your safety because anyone can view the Grapevine. Your email address is in your profile and only members can view that. Julian is a member.

PM me your address if you like and I'll send you something mild. You realise you have challenged me with the boasts about Phal. I'll send you seeds for a variety so stupidly hot that eating one will make you run to the fridge and drink left over vindaloo to cool your mouth.

Cool!! That sounds like my type of chilli!!!!!

I've sent an email to the competition addy, which has our snail mail addy in it too, but I'll PM it to you too! Many thanks in advance for the seeds, and if there's any you're still needing for the coming growing season give us a shout, we may well be able to return the favour by sending you something that we've a few of, tho I'm afraid I've no really hot stuff!

A fahl is kiddies stuff. I made a curry using some Dorset Naga chillies and not believing they were as hot as people suggested, put the lot in seeds and all.

I lost the will to live for about 30 minutes

Whilst I prefer a Jalfresi I can eat hot but never ever ever......ever again a Dorset Naga.
