  • Beware if ordering books........

    From The Book People.
I ordered a couple of books online yesterday. I received all confirmation emails as you do. Then I noticed in my spam box a mail from the so called book people stating that my payment had not gone through properly. Aye, that'll be right!.....Anyhow, I noticed that the order numbers were totally different. Please be carefull of these phishing emails with anything you order.

I've been using the book people for years and never had any problem's, I've always found them to be very secure when ordering on line, I think they'd be horrified to find out this has happened Bigmally. Have you been back in touch with them and let them know what's happened ??

It definately flags the question, "How would the phishers know you'd ordered with the Book People?".
I'd agree with GN; worth letting them know. Unless it's pure coincidence.
I've had a few phishing e-mails from Citibank and Halifax, but fortunately I don't bank with them so knew it would be a scam straight away.

I forwarded the spam onto them, just waiting for confirmation but it is scary if you don't have your wits about you.

I can't agree more with you on that one BM, not knowing if things are safe or not, I hope they can reassure you, it just sounds so unlike them, is this the first time you've used them????

I normally order from the book people through work but this is the 1st time I have ordered online. I am not blaming them for one minute. There are some crafty people out there & you have to be on your guard all of the time.

I had that happen when I ordered seeds etc from a company that used to advertise at the top of this page (can't remember their name off the top of my head). Someone had somehow intercepted all of their order confirmation emails, and subsequently emailed everyone saying their 'payments had failed'. I checked my bank and saw the payment had gone through, so I emailed them asking what was going on and that's when it became clear they'd been 'had', so to speak. What really annoyed me about that, is that once the company found out, they sent these stupid emails out warning people, but did a 'group send' so the email I got had about 20 other email addresses on it, that I or anyone else could have 'harvested'... Needless to say, I didn't buy anything else from them!

                      Thanks for the Warning.

I have used the Book people in the past, and as other poster has stated its a bit disturbing that the phishing e-mail came through just after you had placed an order with them.

I get on average 1 phishing e-mail a day into my spam box. What stopped me using e-bay many years ago, was after i signed up to Pay-pal i got loads of phishing e-mail about account problems...i never used e-bay again.

                      Keep em peeled.!

I get phishing emails from all the major high street banks (even though I don't use any of them) and occasionally some from eBay (sent to an email account that isn't linked to my ebay account, so I spotted it straight away)

That's a definite no-no in my book. When sending an e-mail to multiple people you should always use BCC unless you're absolutely sure it's OK not to.

I went to an Intel seminar a few years ago and a couple of days later received a follow up e-mail, with the e-mail addresses of ALL the delegates. Suffice to say they got some angry e-mails back from several people
