  • Best way to keep cats out of my garden?

Yesterday I finally managed to rake up the leaves on the lawn, bag them up and get them down to the plot. However, during my raking I uncovered several cat poos on the lawn. Now usually, I'd just treat it as an unsavoury incovenience, but with Bean on the way I'm obviously keen to make sure our feline deposits are minimised, or eradicated completely if possible.

What's your suggestion for keeping cats out of my garden.

I appreciate I'm not going to keep them out entirely, but if I can make it as unwelcoming as possible I'd be happy.

    What would Vedder do?

moth balls are great but you would have to be careful when bean is big enough to go outside another trick is to fill a pop bottle with water and attach to fence at intervals this is supposed to work because when the cats see their reflection they look bigger and thinks it s another cat think thats why ppl use cds aswell x

Water pistol/sprays. Cats hate getting wet. If you can't sit there targeting them, you can get automatic ones linked to a hosepipe. Your own widdle round the boundaries would tell them it's someone elses territory

Cats hate the smell of oranges, our old cat use to scarper if you had a satsuma.
Or you could get a big dog, we never have cats in our garden as the dogs would try to eat it. The only problem with that is dog poo, but they don`t try to bury it.

there is a post on here somewhere in the foxes thread, with a link to a really good anti cat device, perfectly humane and no problem for bean, its a jet of water thingy, 9 volt battery and programmable, if cats are a problem, and you dont want a dog ( and dogs suck with cats they are scared of them) i suggest you consider one, cats hate getting wet, especially when they dont know where its coming from.....except Lyndas, but she is weird and so is her cat

We found that getting our own cats keeps all others out the garden.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

now THAT does work, cats don't dirty their own house and they dont like other cats on their territory.

I'd dearly love a dog, but as we both work (well, when LadyWayne goes back to work) it wouldn't be fair on the dog.

I've seen the PIR sensor water spray things which I like the idea of. Looks like I need to drink plenty of orange juice then...
