  • BBQ weather

Yesterday the weather was so nice, and the forecast for tonight was quite good, so Son No2 decided to cook a BBQ. I have told him to cook under the grill, but he refuses to be defeated. It's a gas BBQ, and took 5 matches to light. He left it to warm up, went to put the first food on, and the wind blew it out.
He's borrowing my hooded coat. He came in, draped it over a chair, and the water ran off and puddled on the floor. It's worse weather out there than the the year I decided to imrpress MIL with a BBQd turkey for Christmas dinner.
Isn't it odd, if I'd asked him to brave the weather he'd have moaned non-stop. As it is, he's enjoying the challenge . We will, of course, be eating inside.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Enjoy BS, I bet it tastes even better than usual. We once had a barbecue wearing black plastic bags and holding up umbrellas. The neighbours sat in their shed doorway. Great fun.

There's no room in my GH at the moment, its full of beans (http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...eat_64912.html), as well as squash, tomatoes and chillies to name but a few. All waiting impatiently to move to their more permanent homes. Not a possibility with all this wind as well as rain.

The food tasted lovely, even if the chef did get a trifle testy because the flame blew out everytime he had to lift the lid.

On another note, I saw on fb our newly established environmental group were still going ahead with a newt census tonight. I'm sure the newts won't mind the weather, but I would think it might test the commitment of some of the group .

Hi BS, I'm sure you're aware but gas BBQ's don't need to warm up, it's only charcoal ones that need to warm for about 3/4 of a hour.........I'm sure you knew this anyway..........

When we lived in Orkney, we quite often had BBQs regardless of weather, there was a nice big shed with wide opening doors and an extended roof, BBQ stood in the open doorway, we sat inside, worked fine (as long as we had warm clothes on) There were occasions when we had to abandon the idea because the horizontal rain was coming in the shed door, but mostly it worked fine!
