  • Bargain of the year or just an expensive fryer.

Mrs BM has wanted a Tefal Actifry for a while but I thought hell no, I can get a new greenhouse for that price... Anyways as usual she got her own way but me being a tight yorkshiremen did a bit of delving. I went on ebay and found a guy selling a £90 discount code for 99p. I'm not normally a gambler but thought I'll have a bit of that..... 99p later true to his word I received an email with a code on it & the link to go to buy it. I went through all the procedure, entered the code & hey presto £90 discount. Still cost £107......... Is this the bargain of the year or an expensive fryer.
    P.S. The chips are fantastic.........

I suspect the site you got sent to had an inflated price to start with as kelkoo lists them from £125.90 upwards. I have fancied one for a while but Madmax just won't go for the cost. Nice to know the chips are good - might get saving for when my deep fryer needs replacing.

Yes I've seen them around £150 inc p&p....So £107 inc p&p I thought was not too bad. Plus it keeps me in Mrs BM's good books.......

They have them in Amazon for £130, but then there's also one for over £300.

You can't possibly be a proper tight Yorkshireman otherwise you'd have got her a chip pan and put up with the grease

The price seems to be about £129 on Amazon and could probably be bought for less with a bit of rummaging about on the internet.
Sounds like quite expensive chips to me - but maybe that's just because I don't like chips and can't stand the smell of them cooking. Maybe your little machine gets rid of that smell.

I really don't do deep frying much so couldn't justify the cost. I keep oven chips in the freeaer for when the grandchildren come round, though to be honest they're getting to like Nanny's funny (real) potatoes. I think the only things I fry are eggs (occasionally) and onion bajis(sp?) very occasionally, and I just use oil in a wok

They smell wonderfull as you only use a tablespoon of oil per panfull of chips. I agree it is expensive if all you are going to use it for is chips but it has other uses which we have yet to try.

I think that the price of the frying pan isn't the issue as long as mrs BM is happy the price is cheap..jacob

My MIL and BIL have both got these and say they are brilliant. I do like my chips fried, but sometimes get fed up of the greasiness, so try not to have them too often.
Would love one of these, but even with a discount like that can't justify the cost for a while yet. Maybe next year sometime.

I know what you mean Kirsty, it stuck in my throat for a while but then I thought it's healthier & if it lasts 10 years then its cheap really.

Suppose it depends on how much you use it, used to have a chip pan but after we realised we'd not used it for about 5 years we got rid and can't think of a single occaision we've missed it. Don't really like fried food very often and tend to do my version of chips in the oven or very occaisionally (maybe twice a year) have chippy tea. Good job it works well considering the price though!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Stuck at home and unable to do much I've been channel hopping and came across them today (£139.99 + p&p). They look great - as well as the chips they were cooking sausages, chicken joints, lamb chops, chilli, fruit. It stirs things up as they cook so ideal for casseroles, pasta sauces etc. They produced a very good looking chilli, just put all the raw ingredients in, switch it on and leave it till it's ready (about 20 mins), great when you get in from work. But it's still a lot of money!
