For the last few years the wife and I have donated food to the local foodbank at this time of year. When I was working I would pop into all the different supermarkets and see what was on offer to max our buying power. As I now am retired the amount I visit is greatly reduced.

Could I asked that you keep an eye out for me and let me know what and where? Please remember these will need to be from shops that are national.

We aim to make 10 small hampers of the sort of food we consider normal but to some they are pure luxury.

Things that we normally include are:
    Tinned Meat
    Tinned Pies
    Tinned Fruit
    Box of Biscuits
    Box of Chocolates
    Box of Sweeties

You can see by the above that to most of us these are every day items but something that loads of people cant even imagine buying. We try to work to a budget of £20 per hamper so the cheaper we buy things the more equally deserving people as us recieve. Although not parishioners our local church is part of the Trussel Trust and distribute them.

    Please keep your eyes peeled

You have the true spirit of Christmas in your hearts GL, how generous. I'm afraid I only shop on line, but I'll keep my eyes open

Sweets & Bars of chocolate from Lidl would be a must for me. Good prices, good taste, good value.

Pasta from Asda is 50p for a large pack of several kinds. Also many people have dogs etc and at the moment Asda have Winalot on offer 24 tins for £9.45 so that could be spread out into a few pet boxes.

p.s there is a web site you can look at that compares the prices and gives you the offers for all of the supermarkets including Aldi's go to
                        mysupermarket

I use the site to compare prices before we go out and do the shopping - it can be quite eye opening the differences between them.

Morrisons are now doing a card that will price match against even Aldi and Lidl. Once you get to 5,000 points I think then you a £5 voucher off your next shop.
