Default Ban The Archers

I, like many of you, love Radio 4. It is the greatest civilizing influence in the land; everyone should be forced to listen to at least 2 hours a day. It would, quite frankly, do them good.

But those 2 hours should not span 19:05-19:15 every weekday. That's right The Archers. I just don't get it. A load of old people with funny accents stood in a radio studio trying to read their lines while sound-fx people close doors and make sounds like supermarket tills. It just doesn't work. You can see the set wobbling even on radio. And before you tell me that that is the charm of it...don't be silly. Are we really expected to think that these people exist. No, no, no.

Yes I can suspend disbelief, but only if scriptwriters and actors take me there.

And as for Agricultural Story Editor! Anyone could do that job. Cows eat grass. Vets sort them out when they go wrong. End of.

And then there's that music. So bloody jolly after 15 minutes of Altzheimer's.

No, no, no...it must go.

I almost remember the day Doris died. We used to endure the omnibus edition on Sunday mornings. given that we lived in the country, and played on the farm, it seemed a bit pointless to me at that age, and has never been the same since Dan retired.

I'm with Johnty on this one.

Not something I've ever bothered with, so can't really comment, but I do think that those who like it should be allowed to carry on listening to it, free will n all that, so I'm for against banning it!

Blimey you're a pair of ol' farts! The Archers is ground-breaking stuff....who else would tell all the ossified R4 listeners what really goes on in the real world? The only gays in the village! Sizzling sausages. Living over the brush. Nigel sells his car in a concern for the environment. Lillian gives up booze for Lent......

C'mon.

It must make somebody happy or it would not be on . Listener figures must show a demand for the Archers . Not my cup of tea but each to their own.

There is one good thing about the Archers. It's on at a regular time and when you hear the signature tune it's as good as an alarm clock

LOL.
It's been so many years since I actually heard it that I'm sure (just like Corrie) I'd no longer recognise anything about it. What happened to the cow with mastitis? When did the Grundy's take over the pub? What is Shona, and did Princess Anne really play a part?

Given the 'reality' shows that are broadcast these days, perhaps it's not so bad after all - think about it Johnty - Big Brother or The Archers....

Maybe we should just ban ALL broadcasting?????

I disagree - the Archers is great - compare it to the afternoon plays and it's a winner - the afternoon plays DRIVE ME MAD!

that's so funny - I caught the start of Emerdale this evening - never seen it before in my life - It was appauling and crammed to the brim with stereotypes - I couldn't stop laughing, then just HAD to switch off.

I'm sure that you put stuff on the vine just to get me going JG!! The Archers is excellent - however I do confess that the SX are not all they might be!

You're gonna have to put me down as an 'against'.
