  • Bad Week.....and some.

    What a truly carp week!

Tuesday, we had a funeral - always sad. We were leaving for home yesterday morning when (grown up) kids phoned to say the shower was stuck on, so we needed a plumber to come out. We came home a day early to see the plumber.

We had been in the house a few hours and were getting ready for bed when we heard a loud bang outside. We nearly didn't go and investigate but we're glad we did as one of our cats had been hit by a car (it drove off) We got him to the vet immediately, and they stabilised him, but they phoned this morning to ask if they could do more tests and a series of xrays. I asked what the prognosis was and was told pretty hopeless, so we made the decision to say goodbye and have him put to sleep.

When we went in to collect Pedro's body and pay the bill it was £288. On the bill it says they didn't put him to sleep as he passed away before they had chance. I can't fathom why they wanted permission to do tests and xrays when he was so far gone, and I'm struggling with the guilt of us not having Peds put to sleep last night instead. I hope he didn't suffer all night as he had to be intubated, and there was no response from his legs or tail. We're convinced they were padding their bill, why else would they want to do so many things to a paralysed cat?

I have so had enough this week

I'm so sorry to hear of your sad news. I'm sure the vet's thought they were doing the best at the time - hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it, I'm sure they were doing what they thought was right.

I hope the week gets better for you.

Sorry to hear of your bad week. Why does life sometimes save them all up for the same few days?
Hope the rest of the week starts to look up.

Sorry to here you've had a crap time of it Jules...I hate the **** fairy, why does it always happen in lumps. If it's any consolation Pedro would have been so heavily sedated at the vets he wouldn't have had any pain, so don't feel guilty about what happened. We have to hope when our beloved pets are injured that there's something can be done to help them. I can understand your frustration though at such a big vet bill. So sorry to hear your sad news, it certainly seems like you've had your fair share this week. As for poor Pedro, I agree with Ginger in that it would be very unlikely that he would have felt any pain. Some pet owners want every test done, shattered bodies pinned, and all sorts, just to keep their pet alive, when others feel it would be kinder to put them to sleep. Personally, I think your Vet bill could have been a lot higher, as it was after hours, and would have called out at least two staff. Anaesthetic is very expensive too. RiP Pedro.

Keep your chin up Jules. As others have said Pedro wouldn't have been allowed to suffer, he would be drugged, but that still doesn't make it any easier to lose a beloved pet. Huggs.
