  • Baby Shower

I just thought I would fill you all in on what a baby shower is! Went to my niece's, it was great fun. Played loads of games all baby related, such as charades bingo and a quiz about the mum when she was a baby,(family were excluded from this one) and drank gallons of champagne, left over from her wedding. Had a fab day.I must admit I was a bit sceptical, about all these new fangled ideas, but would thoroughly recommend it.

I made her cake for her, as well as the cradle base.

All sounds a bit American to me :/
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
    Pumpkin pi.

That's my feeling too. Sounds like they can be fine but the only one I have any experience of was a blatant attempt to get money out your friends and colleagues - a kind of "come to a party all about me (oh and my baby but mainly me) and spends oodles of money on me". There was a list to challenge all wedding lists full of top of the range stuff for both the baby and the mum to be. I passed on it and was accused of being a spoil sport. I barely knew the woman.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I like any excuse for a get together, but I do have reservations about celebrating before the baby has safely arrived....but that's me perhaps?

Must say, that's a lovely cake Bal...well done!

I agree with all the above comments. I was very sceptical too. I don't think I would go to one that wasn't family. It's a good job my mother is out of the country at the moment, she would not have approved at all. I wasn't allowed to buy or even knit for my baby when I was pregnant until I passed the 8th month

Nor me! Trouble was they had popped out by 8months one week...my OH was a wreck by the time we all got home after doing the shop run. The babies shared a cot for 12months and wore white baby grows most days...

Traumatic start, but nothing like having to jump in the deep end. My little one wore the flannelette nighties for the first few weeks, shame you can't get them any more, they were so sweet and totally unisex.

I love the unisex stuff. I was given some little denim jeans and waistcoats!!! Well, who could be comfy in that? I quite liked not having to think what to put on them and I had a fat one and a thin one so it was easy to tell the difference!

My youngest sister went all trendy when she had her first son, he was dressed in jeans and waistcoats etc from about 3months onwards, he looked so grown up. I felt cheated out of having a baby to cuddle and went straight to toddler stage. I guess I am old fashioned. My mother taught me how to swaddle him from birth, he loved it and slept for hours if I let him. I am told you can now buy swaddling sheets they are the latest"new" thing
