There is a sweet little steam railway that you can get from Eskdale to Ravenglass. Here is a link: http://vegan.port5.com/flashvegangite2.html. It also will give you reason to go over the Hardknot Pass and there are amazing views from there BUT PLEASE be warned its not for the fainthearted as it is very steep, very high, very narrow and lots of hairpin bends on the road, so only go if you are a confident driver and good with heights etc. Beautiful scenery though. See images: hardknot pass - Google Search

I would also recommend going to Ashness Bridge, as it is just so beautiful up there. If I remember rightly there is a tea room selling homemade ice cream at the top of the hill. But I could have remembered it wrong.

All of the above plus there is a garden centre at one end of hardknot or wrynose - can't remember. Ambleside is worth a mooch around. For the very brave I recommend walking gear and a packed lunch to the top of Skiddaw! The ferry over Lake Windermere maybe worth a jaunt. Lakeland shop for all your jam making/bottling kit. Great pub in Eskdale - grey stone but cannot recall name. The flat walks around Buttermere lake. I'm sure I will think of more - apologies fir my ramblings

              OMG!!

What on earth is going on. My husband and I have recently applied for a job at Windermere Golf Club, the chance of us getting it are fairly slim but worth a try.

Since applying for the job my son has come home with a set of random golf clubs, I switched on an episode of escape to the country and it was in the Lakes...... something else that escapes me! and now this thread!

do do do do!!! are these all good signs?

But we only applied for it 3 days ago!

All that aside, it is a beautiful place to go!!

There's an Osprey Project in the lakes near Keswick that's well worth the visit. Here's a little bit of info for you.
This is link to the "Lake District Osprey Watch's Photostream" it's very interesting and it's updated everyday.

There's the "Bassenthwaite Pine Martens" as well.

Dexter, I will if none of the suggestions here tickle my fancy but it's s much nicer to have recommendations from people who have actually experienced the attractions.

We loved the ferry trip from Ambleside to Bowness and return, plus lunch in 'Hole Int Wall', plus the leisurely walk around town before the ferry ride back. It was a great day except for the heavy rain, which didn't let up all day. It is a wet spot after all - isn't it.
                          I love growing tomatoes.

Head over to Ambleside and visit one of the Lucy's Of Ambleside places - they have a cafe/restaurant, a wine bar and a delicatessen....

                            Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere

Is the glass factory still in Ambleside? Anyone know - that had a bistro type eatery?!
