My first question for GYO's VOMM is this:

Twice in two days now, whilst out pottering in the garden, I have seen earthworms come out of the lawn, and either lie there and die, or get themselves onto the path and die.

Firstly, why do they do this?

and
Secondly, they stay there and just dry up - why don't the birds eat them?

Why do Daffodil Bulbs come up Blind?

It is SO annoying, and if I could plant them elsewhere/deeper, I could just momentarily stop being such a Grumpy Old Woman?
