  • ASCii character map

Hi peeps. I cannot persuade my computer to let me use characters beyond those on the keyboard. I know that by holding down the alt key on some keyboards and then typing in a series of numbers that characters can be made to appear but mine won't. I'm sure some of you clever folks out there will have the solution for me.

I thought you were so wrapped up with ASCii that you'd lost your sense of humour

What programme are you using AP? Microsoft Word usually does the fractions automatically.

If you're using MS word, go to <insert>, <symbol>, choose your font and character or symbol, then you can pick your own shortcut key (rather than the letters/numbers assigned to it), by clicking <shortcut key>, then pressing the keystokes you want, and click <assign>.

For instance to put in the temperature degree sign,( º ) I use ALT+SHIFT+z, which is easy to remember, all being bottom left on the keyboard. (Doesn't work on forums though, I use copy, cut, and paste for that)
