  • Arnica & IBS

Hey there good grapes (and bad ones).

Several of you have been kind enough to provide me with various hints and tips regarding LadyWayne and Bean, including the use of Arnica to help with bruising post-pregnancy.

Just had a quick look and saw mention of gastroenteritis (sp?), which I'm guessing it's a result of ingesting Arnica tablets, but there's also gels/creams.

Given that LW has suffered with IBS in the past - would it be wise to rule out tablet form Arnica?

No contra-indications relating to Arnica - maybe have a chat to the person who dispenses the homeopathic remedies as they may have further information.

Just done some Googling on this one, but no further forward really - too much to make sense of! I'll see what other wise Grapes come back with on this one. Wouldn't think that cream could be used after childbirth to be honest, as much of the bruising is internal and also it can't be used on broken skin (don't think about that too hard !). If it does turn out to be okay, I'd recommend Nelsons pillules, as they are easy and pleasant to take.

            Will watch with interest.

How's it going btw, HW? Today was my sweepstake date!

              The day is still young...

No signs as yet though - althoug last night Bean was being a right bugger apparently, making things very uncomfortable. LW said "come on Bean, when are you coming out?. To which I replied "Whoah!, no hurry Bean, you come out when good and ready - Daddy still needs to get his head round this a bit!".

              Worried?

              Moi?

Don't see any contraindications to arnica pillules. Maybe ask the pharmacy bods in boots?

I've no idea but my mother's a pharmacist - let me if you would like me to check with her - t'would be no trouble!

Best thing I found was lavender oil, in the bath, or slightly diluted. Very soothing and healing.

Hope she's taking raspberry leaf tea to get her womb ready! Think you can get tablets of it now.

I would ask your health visitor about the arnica.

sorry if this is a bit grafic but a warm jug of water with a few drops of lavender or tea tree oil every time you go to the loo, stops the stinging and aids the healing.

p.s. I couldn't stand the raspberry leaf tea. Something with similar 'toning' effects is Clary Sage oil, again in the bath. It's not particularly gorgeous to smell but I used it at the start of my 3 day labour (why rush, eh?) and it seemed to be quite soothing.

My 'don't be without it' item is Dr Haushka Lavender Massage Oil. Mr R massaged me through each contraction with it as things stepped up, and it was wonderful. The smell really helped. When he tried switching to a different oil, it wasn't half so effective!
