  • Anyone know how to....

slacken the water pipe connectors on a washing machine? Washing machine died last night and a new one comes Tuesday. The problem is I can't remove the hot water connection, the cold water and waste pipes slackened off really easy. The hot water will not budge, tried brute force, tried brute force and my gardening gloves, a wrench, pliers, and a hammer. Just put some lubricant oil on to see if that will help. Any ideas?

Trying to take it off at the water end. Thought wacking it a few times with the hammer might have shifted it but no.

If you take it off at the machine end, then it can go straight on the new one when it arrives.

If you really want it off at the water end, try tightening it slightly and then try to undo it.

What's a mole grip? I'm still fighting with the blasted thing I need to remove the pipe from the water end cause I'm paying for the new one to be put in and I MUST (says Iceland) remove it from the water end.

Mole grips - I have a pair and they stay firmly in the kitchen.

mole grips - Google Image Search

You can adjust the width of the grip by screwing or unscrewing the bottom end, and they grip - then give additional pressure when you clamp the extra handle down. That's the best way of explaining.

If the nut like thing that connects the flexible pipe to the water pipe is, as is usual, made of plastic take a junior hacksaw and saw part way through it taking care not to go all the way and damage the threads of the conector that forms the outlet on the water pipe. Then when you try and turn it with your wrench or molegrips the plastic nut will split and fall away from the pipe.

Hope that makes sense. I know what I mean but can't better explain it.

I thought they were called wrenching spanners Smacked the pipe a couple of times with the mole grip (wrenching spanner) will go and give it a try using it properly this time. Ta for your help.

PS I get what you mean as well Snuffer.
