  • Is Anyone Else's Bay Tree Flowering??

My Bay tree is flowering for the first time EVER, I've had it for over 15 years now and it's never done this before, my neighbour's bay is flowering as well...there both covered in flower's.
    Question is...is this normal?
Are anyone else's Bay's in flower?

O by the way, the flower's are really small but very pretty

Well lucky you two! Apparently the bay is either a male or female tree and both of them flower. If you have one of each then you may get berries which can be dried and used instead of bay leaves as a flavouring - the taste is apparently stronger than the leaf.
And the bees love bay tree flowers.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thank's Taff. Mine was a small cutting when I acquired it and I've really not done anything with it just pot it on when it out grew it's pot's, now it's been in it's large long tom for over 4 years and it love's it. I feed it once every blue moon.

Thank's for the tip on the berries Jeanie, I'll keep an eye out for them.

just went and had a look, yayyy flowers on mine too. I've also got a few black berries still on the branches from last year. I picked a few and opened them, they seem to have seed inside. Must be a male tree growing in pollinating distance

Yep flowers on mine this year, think it's the first time since planting 6 years ago. Maybe it was the cold winter that set them off?

We have flowers on ours. We usually get berries and flowers, but 'tis true this year it looks more flowery.

It must be the attention we lavish on it. We put it in a pot about six years ago, keep it in the sunshine, and sometimes water it. I 'prune' it all the time though - use the leaves almost daily for something or other. It must enjoy it.

Sadly ours is looking very poorly. I don't think it appreciated the extensive snow and freezing temperatures this winter. we're giving it some time to see if it picks up but it's not looking good.

Mine flowers every year. It's outside in the open and tough as old boots, I reckon.

Ours always flower and produce baby bays. The babies have been planted in our children's gardens too and seem to flourish quite happily there too (Herts and Warwickshire). Not sure if we have many baby bays around at the moment in the garden but if some appear I'll post on the vine if anyone wants one.

Mine is definitely NOT flowering - and it has been in there for at least 8 years.
