  • Is Anyone Else Trying to Kick The Habit?

Day seven in the house of pain and Creemteez is feeling the strain......
I think I may have taken on more that I should by choosing to knock the fags on the head at the same time as giving up the carbs.
Am SERIOUSLY, KNUCKLE-CHEWINGLY in need of a nicotine fix, but the small, still voice in my head just won't let me give in. The fact that I can feel my stomach resting on my lap (sorry about that mental image!) is also preventing me from hitting the biscuit barrel, but OH. MY. GODDDD!!!

I gave up 4 years ago using nicotine patches (from my Doc) it took two attempts but I'm really glad I stuck with it.

Am trying to go Cold Turkey (no carbs!). May invest in some of those Mini nicotine pills if it gets really bad.

Can I suggest you don't give up the carbs at the same time as the fags? Well I just have!

That is a lot for you to cope with - give yourself about six weeks of no smoking to get it out of your system before you take on other prssure.

But way to go you for kicking nasty ciggies - good luck

Congratulations on making it to day seven! I'm off the Carbs too - and desperate for a fix! I'm a non-smoker, but married to a smoker who won't even try to give up, even though a colleague of his is trying to. You'd think they would support each other!

((((HUGS)))) for your willpower - sounds like you have the right sort of will to stick with it. Positive mental attitude!

Best of luck with it! I gave up in 2007 and found those little tabs you put under your tongue fab. Just the little crutch I needed from time from time, but it didn't last very long and I was a 2 packet a day girl - one of the most hardened smokers on the planet. No-one thought I'd do it. The BESTEST thing I ever did.

Think of those cravings as nicotine monsters that you have to kill off one by one. Gradually, you'll realise that you haven't thought about fags for hours, and the monsters get easier and easier to finish off! Also, look at people who don't smoke and see how happy they are without cigarettes - the proof that they don't make you feel better, they just make you a slave to themselves..... right little monsters!

Go and have a biscuit and a cuppa. One thing at a time and your health will benefit from quitting much more than losing a couple of pounds.

              GOOD LUCK:!!!!!!

Well done Creemteez, keep it up. If you can't do both at a time, enjoy the pasta!

I'm not trying to tempt you back to carbs, but I quit smoking 3 years ago now and am still sooooooo glad I did. Like you, I went cold turkey (although I quit after reading Alan Carr's "How to Quit Smoking the Easy Way").

So keep it up! Give yourself a pat on the back! Think of the cravings the way Patchninja said and remember that the physical withdrawal symptoms are practically zero (ie you don't really need nicotine patches or anything else), it's all in the head and a psychological battle - keep your determination up. It CAN be done. It WILL be done. YOU can do it!

                Well done again!

Day eight for me today and I've been walking round like a bear with a wounded behind for the last 3 days

It's horrible and I've been shouting at people

I'm just so angry, I don't know how to get rid of all my frustration!

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

To all those who are trying to give up - Really well done and keep at it, it does get easier.
I remember when I gave up thinking that life wasn't any fun at all without a cigarette and I was so miserable but I kept at it and thought if I can manage one day, I can manage another and carried on like that. I agree with everyone else - don't try and do too much at once and if you feel like a few carbs every now and then, go for it it is much better to concentrate on the smoking, you can worry about the weight in a little while.
Good for you - keep at it

                        Thanks Everyone!
Womble, I SO-O-O understand what you mean. Mr Teez is being supportive in that he went and hid in the loft today (said he was putting in some insulation - yeah, right!). Was speaking to my best friend who is also battling with the weed. I usually pop down to hers on a Saturday morning and we catch up over coffee and half a pack. We both said in unison, "What'll we do????"
Yep, one hour at a time, I think that's the way to go......

You'll still pop to her's and have coffee!

If you can go through a process whereby you always associate cigarettes and come out the other side smelling fresh - you've cracked it.

Hmm, must admit I was in town the other day and someone who had obviously been smoking in a confined space stood next to me in a shop. I had to move away the smell was so bad, but I did think, "That would usually be me...."
