  • Any machine knitters out there

Years ago i used to have one with the ribber, then i inherited my late mams old knitmaster single bed,it is great for doing small things like toys ext,any how,i got it out to use yesterday,it worked fine for my try out,cut it short,i have a broken flat spring thing in the push along box, this part is what pushes the needles up and down,i have spent hours trawling the net to no avail, the only ref i could find was a lady got lots, and has a virtual museum but no contact,it's a knimaster 4500,very ancient lol, there are 3 ports of call i can make after the holls, the reason for me posting are........if anyone on here can shed any light/info that will help me,or indeed if another machine might have the same part, the only info i can get so far about this model is,you have to purchase another old one for the bits,so up to now it's like looking for rocking horse waste,

My next question is,as i fancy getting a different used machine, with a ribber, brother seems to be better for any bit,i don't want a fancy all singing dancer, just simple, sooooooany advice would be welcome please, thanks peeps,

Can't help directly, LD, but have you tried this chappy Contact Us - Knitting Machine Repairs ?

He looks a bit like a serial killer (note to self: before putting a pic on your blogs, check with someone else who doesn't know you to make sure you don't look like a simpleton/crook/tart etc etc), but I'm sure he's nice as pie. He doesn't list the 4500 specifically, but he does list other knitmaster machines.

Otherwise, find the part number (from the manual) and look for on ebay. If you haven't got the manual, I think you should be able to search & download that.

      HTH a bit.

If you have all parts of the broken spring take them & the bit it fits into/onto to your nearest clock maker/repairer.They use flat springs in the winding mechanism & should be able to copy your original

I am not a machine knitter but try Googling North Devon sewing and knitting machines. A very old company that I used when I was in the UK. They may be able to help if you phone them.

Lottie - try ringing 01934 633783 Fleece from Leece here in Weston super Mare. They don't sell knitting machines any more but they might have the part in the store room.
