  • any grapes in or know the swanage area?

    Hi Grapes,
hope you can give me some ideas, I have been roped in to being a driver to take luggage down to swanage for a field trip the first week of october for college. This means that I will have 3 days to kill as I don't actually have to go with them. So, I was wondering can any of you help with ideas of what to do - market days etc... Obviously I know there must be lovely walking in the area but as i'll be on my own I was thinking maybe if there's any gardens worth visiting or any other attractions worth visiting? I don't know the area at all as have never been.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi mrsw. Swanage railway is a must, getting off at Corfe and have a look round the village and castle.
Swanage pier is nice for a stroll and definitely fish and chips nearby.
You can always get the swanage ferry to Poole, you get to see the rich and famous houses of sandbanks.
Brownsea island is well worth a visit, think you have to catch boat from Poole harbour.
Monkey world is nearby. And tank museum.
I know you said your on your own so not keen on walking but you can drive to lulworth cove and walk up to durdle door. Well worth a visit. Or a bit of fossil hunting in kimmeridge!!
Oh also recommend lots of perbeck ice-cream!
Hope you have a lovely few days

Go to Langton Matravers and walk down to the sea at Winspit, a disused quarry. Inland there's the village of Moreton where there's a wide ford and lovely place to idle. Cloud's Hill is TE Lawrence's cottage, one of the most atmospheric places I have ever visited. Not open all the time so check. Nearer to Dorchester is Aethelhampton. In Dorchester is Maiden Castle, a spectacular hill fort. Gardens at Kingston Lacey.
OH's parents had a caravan in Swanage so had holidays there for many many years. Can I come?

I don't know the area well, but have friends near Poole. The harbour is nice for a wander, Swanage also lovely for a wander and Corfe Mullen.
