Get some stainless steel pans Jackie. They clean up beautifully, even if you do manage to burn them. My worst case of lighting the wrong gas ring was when I meant to put the kettle on, and lit the gas under the frying pan instead!! Not much oil in it thank goodness, but you should have seen the flames. The kids screamed, and the dog hid for a week!!

that would be me, stainless steel only, no nonstick apart from the wok and ommlette pan which are lovingly oiled each time they are used.
there is something very theraputic about scouring a stainless steel pan with wire wool.

Oops, commiserations Jackie, none of my pans match because I'm always doing stuff like that. Hope OH doesn't go on about it for too long!

well i kinda figure if you have scrubbed it and its still black, it still clean, depends what you burned? water is a begger when you boil it dry, bicarb of soda helps, i have done that to my steamer many a time

I think it was rice that I burned to the ar*e of the pot!! We've scrubbed...and scrubbed...but it's still black!!! My OH read somewhere that rhubarb removed it, but we've not got any of that as of yet!!!

rhubard is acid, that will work, as acid goes you cant beat vinegar! lemon at a pinch.

Ooo...I have lots of lemon...I can do that NOW! If that doesn't work, then I can try the rhubarb...and if that doesn't work...I'm throwing the thing out, and buying a new one!! lol

whatever you use, put it in and heat it, it will NOT get rid of all of it, in time maybe, but not at once, but.... you can at least be sure what is left is 'clean' and wont add burny taste to whatever you cook in it.

trust me on this, a lifetime in kitchens and the blackened pans produce the best tasting food, the chinese dont strip their woks, they rinse and oil.

Ok, well I can do it little and often. We don't wash our wok really...we just wipe it until it's clean and then my OH oils it or something....I leave it to her!

But, the food tastes good! So, perhaps the same will apply to this brown bottomed pan!!!

Smells disgusting, but try simmering some vinegar for a bit~all depends tho' I think on how old the burn. But as Bride says,if you've scrubbed it then you know it's clean so carry on using.I only stop using burnt pans when the bottoms start detaching themselves from the rest of the pan!(& apparently pasta's the easiest dish!!!Always catches me out!!)

Sprinkel with diabolocal (sorry, biological) washing powder, top up with hot water and leave to soak overnight. This should remove most of the burnt on stuff. Brillo pads will take care of the rest.
