  • Am I out of touch re holiday costs?

    Planning a holiday to Cornwall in June... going to stay in a B&B... totally shocked to find all the ones in the area we want to go to are at least £65 a night, some up to £90 a night (per night for 2 of us)

    I thought B&B's were a cheaper option - am I completely out of touch!?

    That looks about right to me,tbh there is very little between B&B at a private house & B&B in a small hotel these days,it was £65 for us in Cardiff last weekend

        Sadly the days of a £20 B&B in a farmhouse will never be seen again

          I'm afraid you are. I found two for £55 on hotels.com in Truro.

            The last one I stayed at was almost £150 a night! That was for the most fantastic room and en suite bathroom, in beautiful grounds, mind you!

              You're probably think of Blackpool prices, Cornwall is a bit more expensive. Have you tried looking at Travelodge or similar? You don't get breakfast but you can normally find a cafe somewhere and you can get them quite cheap sometimes, particularly if can book in advance.

                If you watch 'Four in a bed' on TV- you'll see that most of their BnBs average at about £75/85 per night for 2 peeps!

                ( BnBs / Hotels in France tend to start at €50 - €75 a night for 2 peeps...sometimes it's cheaper to nip over the channel if you can get a cheap crossing!)

                  I've just remembered..one BnB I stayed in in the early 80's cost £6 a night per person!!!!
                  ...nylon sheets...free bed bugs.... and for breakfast at 7 am...a greasy egg and sausage and pot of stewed tea!!

                  * Hmmm...me thinks I'm getting old! ...at least it wasn't in £sd !!!!

                        I remember those awful nylon sheets too - they used to catch on my toenails
                        If you're going for a few nights what about renting a cottage/flat?

                            They are cool, though you have to like the outdoors as there doesn't appear a lot of room on in the inside other than a bed. Plus I can't tell if a bed is included?, it says to provide your own bedding, but the bed in the picture looks like its a feather ticking on the floor?

                            Lovely spot though, and your own beach..
                            I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
