Default Adolescent Music

Who were the bands you liked when you were around 14?

I loved:
Toya Wilcox - I want to be free, It's a Mystery
Dexys Midnight Runners - Geno
Ochestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) - Enola Gay, Electricity

Listened to them again on youtube. Not as good as I remember, but mixed with teenage hormones - fantatic.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones.
The Swinging Blue Jeans
Freddie & the Dreamers
Johnny Kid & the Pirates
There were others but I can't remember them all

Ghastly thought but I was 14 in 1971 (where did the years go!?!). Not sure if it was the exact year or slightly later but I have some very happy memories of red suede pixie boots, jumpers with pompoms and a new found love for Paul Weller and The Jam (I'll let you know once I've grown out of it!!!).

Do I have to go here ! Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Tommy Steele ( and the rest). I met Paul Simons when I was 16 in a field belonging to the family I was to marry into. He wasn't famous at the time, just a folk-singer doing the rounds .

I was 14 in 1982, had to be Adam and the Ants and Madness. at school you had to be into one or the other, i on the other hand, wanted to be different. also loved Tears for Fears.

Hmm... that was '88 for me...Madonna, Luther Vandross, Alexander O'Neil and I'd just started listening to Metallica and Iron Maiden through my brothers bedroom wall.

This has made me think - What was the first single I ever bought. It was the brotherhood of man - save all your kisses for me. The eurovision song contest winner in 1971. I remember it cost me around 60p and I vividly remember buying it. I was only around 10 at the time. We had a special dance to go with it.

1984 and at14 i was......hold on let me think.
UB40, massive fan.
Madness/Selector/The Beat/Badmanners/Judge Dread(RIP) (Total SKA HEAD and still am)
Bob Marley, mainly the 70`s stuff he did before his big time.
The Police, Regatta de Blanc was one of my first album purchases.
Thinking about it this time of my life really was bloody good .
Just off to blow the dust off my LP`s.
Strangely i am off to a 80`s fancy dress next week and i have chose Buster Bloodvessel of Bad Manners fame, need to put on a few pounds though.
Great thread, Minty X

After a hard day in the garden of course.
